Assigned to Double-A Altoona
Heredia was assigned to Double-A Altoona on Friday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Heredia has yet to pitch so far in 2017. Last season with High-A Bradenton, Heredia posted a 3.64 ERA in 54.1 innings of work. Considering that Double-A is the highest level he has ever played at, it will likely be a bit of a challenge at first for the 22-year-old right-hander.

2011
A noted international signing from 2011, Heredia hasn't progressed as the Pirates had hoped. Following a fairly encouraging 2013, the 20-year-old righty saw a drop in velocity and an inability to get left-handed batters out last summer. Heredia registered a 4.15 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 89 innings. He was hampered by a 4.3 K/9 rate, and lefties collected an .861 OPS against him. He's yet to reach 100 innings in four minor league campaigns -- shoulder soreness forced him out for two months in 2014. The once-prized prospect is set to start his third season for Low-A West Virginia.
