Heads to Triple-A
Brett was promoted to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
After signing a minor-league deal with the Rangers back in January, Brett was released by Texas partway through spring training. The White Sox picked him up shortly thereafter, and now he'll head to the Triple-A level to replace Daniel Palka, who recently headed up to the majors. Brett seems like nothing more than an organizational depth piece at this point, especially after his slow start with Double-A Birmingham this season (7-for-29, nine strikeouts in 10 games played).

After starting the season for Triple-A Durham on the DL with a wrist strain, Brett underwent Tommy John surgery in mid-May, wiping out his 2016 campaign. The 25-year-old second baseman had gone hitless in 11 at-bats with the Rays last spring, and his injury left him unable to build on a 2015 season at Triple-A Durham. Brett has generated some impressive numbers in the categories of extra-base hits (152 over his last eight minor league stops) and stolen bases (138 over the entirety of his minor league career), while also hitting over .300 in four different professional stints. However, he'll need to prove his mettle once again at the Triple-A level and regain his standing in the organization after missing an entire season.
