Rest-of-Season Projections
Released by Oakland
Castro was released by the Athletics on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Castro has thrown 54 innings in his big-league career, recording a 4.50 ERA. He'll look to latch on with another organization on a minor-league deal and could provide pitching depth in the minors, but is unlikely to be much of a fantasy asset.

The former top-100 prospect got his first extended run in a big-league bullpen in 2017, and the results were mixed. While Castro had a decent 8.5 K/9 rate and displayed better control than he had previously in the majors (3.4 BB/9), he struggled mightily with the long ball (1.70 HR/9), especially on the road (five homers in 20 innings). His slider can look good at times, but he has a nasty habit of leaving it hanging too frequently, and he can have trouble locating the fastball. Castro re-signed with the A's on a minor-league deal after the season concluded and will attempt to earn a roster spot in spring training. Don't bet on it.
