Returns to Brewers on minor-league deal
PMilwaukee Brewers
February 12, 2018
Burgos signed a minor-league contract with the Brewers on Monday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
ANALYSIS
As he returns to the Brewers for the upcoming season, it's unlikely that Burgos will do much more apart from providing organizational depth. He hasn't appeared in the majors since 2013, when he pitched just six games (29.1 innings) and posted a 6.44 ERA and 1.67 WHIP. He spent most of the 2017 season at Triple-A Colorado Springs and pitched to the tune of a 7.80 ERA and 1.82 WHIP over 12 games (42.2 innings).

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2014
2013
Burgos saw big league action for the first time in 2013, and outside of an outing in Cincinnati in which he was tagged for 10 earned runs, he pitched generally well, posting a 3.75 ERA over his other five starts. Injuries cut his season short, however, and he was shut down in July. Burgos throws several pitches but doesn't possess a dominant repertoire, so his ceiling is likely that of a back-end starter. He could compete for the fifth starter job in spring training, but coming off a shortened season, it's likely he will begin 2014 with Triple-A Nashville.
Burgos toiled in the low minors for a couple years, but he had a breakout 2012 campaign, going 10-4 with a 1.95 ERA in 28 games, including 27 starts, across three levels. Burgos is not a big strikeout pitcher, but he averaged 8.1 K/9 last season and dropped his WHIP to a career-best 1.04. Burgos ended last season with Triple-A Nashville and figures to open there again in 2013, but with the opportunity to move into the Brewers' rotation if he continues to impress.
