Gomez has agreed to a contract with Atlanta, the Braves' official web site reports.
ANALYSIS
Gomez was Cuba's center fielder on the gold medal-winning 2000 Olympic team and defected in 2008. He has speed but not much power and it's not clear how much upside he'll have at age 30. He'll start at Double-A or Triple-A. Still, he could reach the majors later this summer since the Braves have struggled to find production in their outfield after Jason Heyward.

Gomez was Cuba's center fielder on the gold medal-winning 2000 Olympic team and defected in 2008, but only signed a contract to join MLB last May. He has speed but not much power and it's not clear how much upside he'll have since he's 31 this season. He hit .315 in 38 games at Double-A, though he had just a .339 SLG. He'll likely move to Triple-A next season and could be called up as a reserve outfielder.
