Carrera parlayed a decent spring into a platoon role, playing against almost all right-handers until a fractured right foot sent him to the disabled in mid-June. At the time, Carrera was slashing an impressive .297/.366/.412. Despite missing only two weeks, Carrera's playing time was sporadic the rest of the season, primarily because Steve Pearce took over primary duties in left field, then the Blue Jays opted to give Teoscar Hernandez a look down the stretch. Carrera hammering right-handers to the tune of .310/.377/.448 and also swiped 10 bases in 11 tries. Despite the impressive campaign, Carrera is best served as a reserve as his numbers were buoyed by an unsustainable BABIP not supported by a 26 percent hard-hit rate, well below league average. This isn't useful skill set for mixed formats, but he could be viable in AL-only if new acquisitions Randal Grichuk and Curtis Granderson don't steal whatever is left of his playing time.
