Adams was outrighted to Double-A Bowie on Sunday, Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.
ANALYSIS
Since the Orioles didn't envision Adams becoming a regular contributor for the big club anytime soon, the team decided to create some flexibility by dropping him from the 40-man roster. Adams could elect free agency if he doesn't wish to report to Double-A Bowie.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2014
2013
With the bevy of injuries the Yankees suffered in 2013, Adams got a shot at some playing time, but he didn't do much with it, putting up a .193 average in 140 at-bats. Adams was a bat-first prospect as he was coming through the minors, so it doesn't say much for his future that he couldn't put up better numbers in his first extended big-league opportunity. The Yankees non-tendered him December, but he quickly signed a major league deal with the Indians, which should give him a chance to compete for playing time as a utility or platoon option during spring training.
Adams' development has been hindered by injury issues throughout his career. He has always shown that he can hit, putting up a .306 average and .835 OPS at Double-A Trenton in 2012. Adams doesn't have the mobility to play shortstop at any time, however, so his value as a utility infielder is limited. Adams is likely to start 2013 in Triple-A, but his bat should land him a job on a major league roster somewhere before too long. The only question is whether that will come with the Yankees or with another organization.
