Dykstra cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Durham on Sunday, the Tampa Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Dykstra was designated for assignment by the Rays on Saturday in order to add Everett Teaford to the 40-man roster shortly after being optioned. He struggled in his time with the big league club, but has shown relatively good numbers at Triple-A. He'll remain with the club at that level, awaiting another opportunity to produce in the majors.

A first-round pick by the Padres in the 2008 draft, Dykstra came to the Mets in spring training in 2011 for Eddie Kunz. Dykstra posted an impressive .274/.436/.503 line over 489 plate appearances with Double-A Binghamton in 2013. He suffered a broken fibula in winter ball that may affect his timeline, but Dykstra still figures to reach the Triple-A level for the first time in 2014. His combination of power and plate discipline makes him an intriguing prospect, even though he's already 26 years old. With a gaping hole at first base, Dykstra may even see Citi Field this year, if he continues to hit and can cut down his strikeouts a bit.
