The carpet was laid out for Mitchell last spring. He had secured a regular role in the Milwaukee outfield and was coming off a strong first cup of major-league coffee in 2022. Unfortunately, though, he suffered significant damage to the labrum in his left shoulder in the 18th game of the 2023 regular season and required a surgical procedure that kept him out until late September. Mitchell was then left off the Brewers' roster for their Wild Card Series matchup against the Diamondbacks, and his standing within the organization was even further clouded by the record eight-year, $82 million contract doled out to top outfield prospect Jackson Chourio in early December. Mitchell has great speed and a mature plate approach, but he'll need steady playing time to make it count. Chourio now projects to be the Opening Day center fielder, with Christian Yelich and Sal Frelick flanking him in the corners. Fourth outfielders don't usually carry fantasy relevance.
