Yahoo DFS Baseball: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Max Scherzer, WAS vs. LAC ($57): With Cleveland yet to announce a starter for Game 1, you're left with three options to fill two slots. The play is unfortunately against the cheapest option, the Dodgers' Rich Hill ($40), who has allowed 11 runs in his last four starts, spanning 19.2 innings. Scherzer hasn't been great, allowing nine runs in his last 11.0 innings, but he's recorded at least seven strikeouts in five of his last six outings, and he has a solid chance at earning a victory at home against Hill.

Marco Estrada, TOR at CLE ($44): Estrada dominated the Rangers in his first postseason start (8.1 innings, four hits, one run, six strikeouts) and has now given up only three runs total in his last four starts, a span of 27.1 innings, with three of those coming on the road. The Indians pose a formidable task, as they were third in runs scored at home and touched Estrada up for three runs in five frames back in July, but the price difference to Hill, when paired with Estrada's current hot streak, seems to give him a safer floor and much higher ceiling.

CATCHER

Roberto Perez, CLE vs. TOR ($8): Perez started all three games of the ALDS and offers owners a chance to save a few dollars at a non-premium position. That he went 2-of-9, including a home run, with two walks and two runs scored was just a bonus. The other three starting catchers have a combined for five postseason hits thus far, suggesting there's little reason to pay up.

FIRST BASE

Ryan Zimmerman, WAS vs. LAD ($8): Zimmerman seems to have flipped a switch in the postseason, going 5-for-15 with two RBI through four games after a dismal regular season when he hit only .218. He's 6-of-9 off Rich Hill, including two homers and a double, and prior to 2016, he had been a brilliant hitter against lefties at home, sporting wOBPs of .403 and .561 in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

SECOND BASE

Daniel Murphy, WAS vs. LAD ($18): Saving a bit by rolling with Zimmerman can afford you the chance to pay up for Murphy, who has driven in six runs in the series while going 6-for-13. Somewhat surprisingly, Murphy doesn't have an extra base hit yet, but that could change against the lefty Hill. Murphy showed well against southpaws in the regular season, posting a .383 wOBP and .924 OPS.

THIRD BASE

Josh Donaldson, TOR at CLE ($20): Donaldson went 9-for-18 in the ALDS, racking up five doubles and three RBI, leading to a 12.7-fantasy-point per game average. There's only $5 separating the highest and lowest-priced options, and while Cleveland's Jose Ramirez ($15) is a solid choice for less, Donaldson -- and his 37 regular season home runs -- has a considerably higher ceiling, and his .396 wOBP against lefties and .405 wOBP against righties appear to make Cleveland's choice on the bump largely irrelevant.

SHORTSTOP

Danny Espinosa, WAS vs. LAD ($7): By paying up for the likes of Scherzer, Murphy and Donaldson, owners will have to go as cheap as possible at other spots. Espinosa is only 1-for-11 during the series, but he has managed to score twice thanks to three hit-by-pitches. As manager Dusty Baker said, "Well, who else do I have?" Espinosa will be in the lineup, and despite his struggles has averaged 4.0 fantasy points per game.

OUTFIELD

Lonnie Chisenhall, CLE vs. TOR ($11): Chisenhall should hit out of the six-hole against the Estrada, and he boasts a .wOBP of .333 while hitting all eight of his regular season home runs against righties. He had three hits and four RBI during the divisional series and was 8-for-23 during the regular season against the Jays.

Ezequiel Carrera, TOR at CLE($9): Carrera hit successfully in all three games against the Rangers, and he moved to the top of the order for the final two games with Devon Travis sidelined. It resulted in four runs scored while going 6-of-16, and though his place atop the lineup is tenuous, Carrera brings upside in a potent lineup. His home/road splits are a bit concerning, as he posted a .232 wOBP on the road compared to .347 at home, but his recent streak and low price make him worth the minimal risk.

Coco Crisp, CLE vs. TOR ($9): Ensuring a platoon player is in the lineup is arguably more than half the battle during playoff contests. Crisp started both games of the ALDS against right-handers and brings his low average, power/speed potential to the seven hole against the Jays. All 10 of Crisp's steals and homers during the regular season came against righties, and he's gone deep in two of his last six games, giving him a puncher's chance at a double-digit fantasy point outing.
