Closer Watch
Scott Downs pitched 1.1 scoreless innings Monday night in his second appearance as the Angels official closer. Downs took over the role after incumbent closer Jordan Walden started the season with an 8.31 ERA while converting one of two save opportunities. Downs has yet to allow a run in 9.1 innings this season and has a 0.857 WHIP.

Grant Balfour struggled to finish off a non-save situation Tuesday night, creating an opportunity for Jordan Norberto to pick up his first career save cleaning up the mess. Keep an eye on this situation, but Balfour should remain the primary option for now.

Francisco Cordero blew another save Tuesday night, but backed into the win when Brett Lawrie hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the inning. The Jays may be tempted to consider Jason Frasor, Carlos Villanueva or Casey Janssen next time a save situation arises.

Recommended Pickup

Patrick Corbin, P, ARI – He's not as big of a name as fellow Diamondbacks pitching prospects Trevor Bauer and Tyler Skaggs, but Corbin is a good prospect in his own right. Corbin has consistently been rated as a top five prospect in Arizona's system and has been called up by Arizona to take the rotation spot of the struggling Josh Collmenter. Corbin debuted Monday against Miami and allowed three runs in 5.1 innings while striking out six. Prior to being called up, he had a 1.67 ERA in four Double-A starts. There is always some risk inherent in calling pitchers up straight from Double-A, but the NL West isn't exactly full of offensive powerhouses. At the very least, Corbin could earn you some much needed wins.

Other Recent Recommendations: James McDonald, Allen Craig, Mike Trout, Kenley Jansen, Bryce Harper
