Closer Watch

Colorado Rockies – The Los Angeles Dodgers were expected to be among the leaders in the NL West this season. If early-season results are any indication, it looks like they may have unexpected company at the top of the division. On their way to ripping off seven wins in their first 10 games, the Rockies have managed success without the man who began the season as the team's closer. Following the demotion of Monday, manager Walt Weiss announced that Adam Ottavino will step into the role. The 29-year-old.righty did everything he could to force his manager's hand by racking up five strikeouts in a pair of scoreless innings Tuesday and Wednesday. Now that he has claimed the job outright, Ottavino could easily find himself with more save opportunities than all but a small handful of relievers this season. Behind a potent offense and improved rotation, Ottavino is in an extremely favorable situation.

Recommended Pickup

Everth Cabrera, SS, BAL – The days have long since been forgotten, but Cabrera was once an All-Star. Legal issues have derailed what was once an immensely promising career. Signed as a backup in Baltimore, he was rightly buried on most fantasy owners' radars and – given the number of leagues in which he is owned – remains there. An unfortunate injury to Jonathan Schoop, however, has afforded Cabrera an opportunity some thought he would never have again. Already penciled in as Buck Showalter's starting shortstop with J.J. Hardy on the shelf, the speedster will likely retain a starting gig once Hardy returns thanks to his flashy defense as a middle infielder. He has shown the ability to get on base, and once there, he can wreak havoc. Teams starving for steals could do worse than to take on this reclamation project.

2B: Tim Beckham, TB ($2,900)
SS: Everth Cabrera, BAL ($3,300)
3B: Jose Iglesias, DET ($3,400)
OF: Dalton Pompey, KC ($3,800)
