FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Targets

FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Targets

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

An 11-game slate awaits Tuesday evening, with a traditional 7:05 p.m. EDT start.

Pitchers

Yu Darvish, CHC at STL ($9,900): Darvish has simply been dominant, allowing only two runs and eight hits over his last three starts while striking out 22 over 20.0 innings. At a sub five-figure tag, he's my preferred target over a trendier Carlos Carrasco (see below) if you're paying up. The Cardinals haven't see a huge timing issue sat the plate since returning to play, but still fan 24.8 percent of the time against righties.

Carlos Carrasco, CLE at PIT ($9,800): Carrasco is going to be the cash game mainstay, and there is certainly some GPP potential simply based on matchup. The Pirates rank last in the league offensively against righties, posting a weak .243 wOBA, 52 wRC+ and .117 ISO. Those numbers are simply pathetic, giving Carrasco an incredibly safe floor. His 32.3 percent K rate suggests GPP upside too. The only concern is how popular and obvious he appears.

David Peterson, NYM at MIA ($8,000): The upside isn't there compared to the names above, but the floor appears to be safe for Peterson, who has hovered between 24 and 37 FDP in his four outings. The Marlins check in at 26th with a .280 wOBA and .148 ISO, while fanning 25.3 percent of the time, against lefties.

Josh Tomlin, ATL vs. WAS ($5,500): The pitching slate is deep Tuesday, so paying down may not make a ton of sense as you can find a plethora of seemingly safe middle-tier options while still leaving ample funds for bats. But Tomlin could a GPP pivot, as he won't need to do much to achieve 3-4x value. He may not be stretched out, but he's proven capable of going 3-5 innings in spot opportunities over the past two years. He has next to no strikeout upside, but he pitches to contact, and even with Juan Soto surging for Washington, the Nats have only a .296 wOBA and .136 ISO against righties.

Top Targets

Bryce Harper, PHI at BOS ($4,200): Harper has put up double-digit FDP in seven straight, carrying a .413 wOBA against righties into Tuesday. Zack Godley, who I'll have more to say about later, is allowing a .409 wOBA to lefties thus far. The salary here is a decent discount compared to the two bats priced above him.

Anthony Rizzo, CHC vs. STL ($3,900): Rizzo leads the Cubs in plate appearances against righties, and it's resulted in a .429 wOBA, 176 wRC+ and .333 ISO. Cardinals starter Daniel Ponce de Leon seems like a pitcher to target, though the splits are super limited given the Cardinals' lack of games to date.

Jose Ramirez, CLE at PIT ($3,900): Indian bats will be popular against JT Brubaker, solely for name recognition (or lack thereof). As such, rostering only one top option and fading a stack makes for a solid contrarian play. Ramirez has averaged 23.5 FDP over his last four games, seemingly bringing stability without stacking.

Value Plays

Ian Happ, CHC vs. STL ($2,900): Happ has posted a .447 wOBA, 188 wRC+ and .333 ISO against righties through 51 plate appearances and produced five double-digit FDP outings in his last seven games, while Ponce de Leon is allowing a .436 wOBA to lefties in very limited action to date. Cubs' secondary bats are incredibly appealing here given their early-season success, with Jason Heyward ($2,500) and Jason Kipnis ($3,100) in play.

Nick Markakis, ATL vs. WAS ($2,400): Full disclosure, I'm an Atlanta fan and I still loathe Markakis. He's been elevated into a run-producing spot in the lineup though and is currently taking advantage of those opportunities, with four (and counting) RBI in his last two outings. There's limited power appeal, but Kakes doesn't need to clear the fence to return 3x here against Austin Voth, who has struggled in limited spots against lefties this year.

Luis Garcia, WAS at ATL ($2,000): Sticking in the same game, Garcia has now started three straight contests and provided 19.2 FDP or more in two of those contests. At the minimum cost, he needs only a single or a walk for 1.5x value, and is clearly capable of much more.

Stacks to Consider

Phillies vs. Godley: Harper, J.T. Realmuto ($3,700), Didi Gregorius ($2,900)

Godley has allowed 13 runs in four starts but twice put up goose eggs, showing his feast-or-famine nature. He also hasn't gone more than four innings, which gives the Phillies a clear shot at a vulnerable Sox bullpen. He's allowing a wOBA north of .400 to both sides of the plate, so this stack is really all about the Phillies lineup. Harper looks safe, as does Realmuto and his .422 ISO to date. There are plenty of choices for the third (or more) piece. Gregorius currently has a .373 wOBA against righties, but Jay Bruce ($2,700) has more power upside if healthy and playing, while we can easily find value in Neil Walker ($2,000) or Alec Bohm ($2,400). There's borderline too many options from this lineup.

Blue Jays vs. Wade LeBlanc: Teoscar Hernandez ($3,200), Rowdy Tellez ($2,700), Randal Grichuk ($2,400)

Imagine a GPP lineup with a top pitcher, a handful of top bats, and this value stack. LeBlanc has been hit hard, allowing 14 runs over 17.2 innings, and has been somewhat equally victimized, allowing a .366 wOBA and 45.1 percent hard hit rate to righties, and an absurd 8.52 xFIP to lefties. Hernandez is the anchor here, sporting a .436 wOBA, 180 wRC+ and .389 ISO against lefties. Tellez brings the power potential, and has surprisingly hit same-handed arms well in the early part of the year, while Grichuk is surging, having homered in three of four and putting up at least 9.2 FDP in seven of his last eight. He's a great standalone value as well.
