FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Zack Wheeler, NYM vs. LAA ($7,500): After missing all of 2015 and 2016, Wheeler has settled in and allowed just three earned runs over 16.2 innings through his past three starts. He sports a respectable 21.9 percent strikeout rate for the year, and the Angels enter with a 25th-ranked .299 wOBA against right-handed hurlers.

CATCHER

Chris Herrmann, ARI vs. SDP ($2,300): At close to minimum price, Herrmann jumps off the page. Luis Perdomo has struggled mightily against left-handed hitters, allowing a .405 wOBA to them this season, and Herrmann has a respectable .216 ISO and .339 wOBA against righties dating back to last year.

FIRST BASE

Matt Carpenter, STL vs. SFG ($3,800): Hitting in the three-hole offers more fantasy upside for Carpenter, and he's handled right-handed hurlers to the tune of a .396 OBP and .392 wOBA dating back to last season. Facing Jeff Samardzija is also a solid matchup, as the veteran righty has surrendered a .397 wOBA to left-handed hitters this season.

SECOND BASE

Jonathan Schoop, BAL vs. TOR ($3,300): While this isn't the traditional handedness advantage for Schoop, he's actually fared better against right-handed pitchers during his career. Schoop owns a .377 wOBA against righties this year, and Michael Bolsinger has surrendered a .395 mark to righty bats dating back to last season.

THIRD BASE

Jake Lamb, ARI vs. SDP ($4,000): As noted, Perdomo hasn't figured out how to limit left-handed hitters this season, so this is a juicy matchup for Lamb. It might be a day late after he hit two homers Friday, but the matchup still checks out nicely and he's been on a tear all season (.391 wOBA). Additionally, dating back to last season, Lamb sports a rock-solid .292 ISO and .389 wOBA against right-handed hurlers.

SHORTSTOP

Corey Seager, LAD vs. MIA ($3,500): Dan Straily left his last start after being hit with a comeback liner on his right forearm. So, with a career .401 OBP and .405 wOBA against right-handed hurlers, Seager is a solid contrarian option at this price, as Straily has been solid against lefty bats in the past (.291 wOBA allowed since 2015).

OUTFIELD

Jay Bruce, NYM vs. LAA ($3,700): Dating back to last season, Bruce has registered a .294 ISO and .373 wOBA against right-handed hurlers with even better marks in 2017 (.330 and .414). In the mid-price range, he checks out as a target-worthy outfielder against Alex Meyer, as the 27-year-old righty has allowed a .385 wOBA to lefties this year.

Mark Trumbo, BAL vs. TOR ($3,200): Things are trending in the right direction for Trumbo, as he's posted a respectable .821 OPS through his past 18 games, which includes seven multi-hit showings. With a .278 wOBA against right-handed arms this season, Trumbo also has additional positive regression ahead considering he posted a .391 mark last year. As noted, this is a cushy matchup, too.

Ben Gamel, SEA vs. CHW ($3,100): Batting second and boasting a .432 OBP and .410 wOBA against right-handed arms this season, Gamel is worth a long look at this price. Veteran Mike Pelfrey has allowed a .393 and .372 wOBA to left-handed hitters over the past three years.
