FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Corey Kluber, CLE at NYY ($11,200) – The top two options on this slate are going against each other, but while Luis Severino has nice upside, he's not matchup-proof like Kluber is right now. Sure, the matchup against the Yankees is a tough one, but the last time Kluber faced the Yankees, he racked up 67 points. Kluber has been on a tear all season and although he had an injury scare two starts back, he rebounded with a 12-strikeout performance against the Red Sox in his most recent start.

Catcher

Buster Posey, SF at SD ($2,800) – Posey's per game average is fourth highest among starting catchers this season, yet his salary is under $3k. Jhoulys Chacin enters with a 4.10 ERA, which isn't terrible, but he's coming off a start where he had to leave early because of a hand issue.

First Base

Eric Hosmer, KC vs TB ($4,000)Austin Pruitt had a nice little stretch at the beginning of August where he posted three consecutive quality starts, but he's regressed in his past two starts. In those two, Pruitt has allowed 11 runs in 10.2 innings. The Royals are more than equipped to handle a struggling righty and no one is better than Hosmer. Hosmer enters with a .397 wOBA against righties this season, which is tops on the Royals and top-15 in the majors.

Second Base

Jonathan Schoop, BAL vs SEA ($4,100) – This might be the highest-scoring game on the slate and as such, you'll want to get a good piece of the Orioles. Marco Gonzales takes the hill for the Mariners with a 7.40 ERA through four starts this season and this doesn't look like a spot where it'll go down. There are many good options in the Orioles lineup, but none have been better against lefties this season than Schoop, who enters with a .391 wOBA.

Shortstop

Marcus Semien, OAK at LAA ($3,400) – Semien's season-long numbers aren't great, but he's been one of the better shortstops in the majors since the All-Star break. Semien and the A's get a nice matchup against Andrew Heaney, who has struggled in his two starts since being activated. Heaney enters with a 8.10 ERA through two starts this season.

Third Base

Rafael Devers, BOS at TOR ($2,900) – Devers is averaging 12.6 points per game through 28 games, which puts him among the elite third baseman, yet his salary is sub-$3k. Devers has been anything but consistent early in his career, but his upside is as high as anyone. The matchup against Marcus Stroman isn't great, but Devers has a solid .349 wOBA against righties this season, so he's worth the limited risk.

Outfield

Charlie Blackmon, COL vs DET ($4,900)Jordan Zimmerman is on the mound for the Tigers, and the way he's been going lately, you should try to squeeze a couple Rockies in your lineup or you'll be left in the dust. Blackmon enters with a .428 wOBA against righties this season, which is fifth highest in the majors, so he's an obvious choice.

Nelson Cruz, SEA at BAL ($4,100)Chris Tillman has made nearly every start on his turn in the rotation since the beginning of May, he's on a team in playoff contention and he has a 7.75 ERA, which makes you wonder about the arms that the Orioles have in their farm system. Nevertheless, Tillman gets another start, which is to our gain and provides us an opportunity to either stack the Mariners or simply pick a few out of their lineup. Cruz is an obvious choice for either as he enters with a .390 wOBA against righties this season, which is top-20 in the majors.

Craig Gentry, BAL vs SEA ($2,400) – Gentry has been equally as good against lefties righties, so there's no advantage there, but if he's in the lineup, he'll likely get a piece of what should be a high-scoring game at a great price.
