FanDuel MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitchers

Kendall Graveman, $5,400 - I'm a little puzzled by this price tag given how much success Graveman has had as of late. He's scored 13, 11, 14, 12, and 8 fantasy points over his last five games. His ERA since 4/25 has dropped from 8.27 to 3.86 and he pitches in a favorable home ballpark. The A's at a -140 favorite are one of the most favored teams tonight meaning a win should be in store for Graveman as well.

Catcher

Welington Castillo, $2,800 - It's a little odd Castillo couldn't find playing time earlier this season and then shuffled from Chicago to Seattle to Arizona. The Diamondbacks have given him consistent playing time and he's made the most of the opportunity. He has homered in three of his last seven games and gets to face Michael Bolsinger tonight, a pitcher who has pitched less than 15 innings over his last three starts. While the "Bolsinger revenge factor" could be in play, Castillo make for a nice cheap option. Russell Martin ($3600), who has gone 6-for-19 with four home runs against Clay Buchholz, is another option.

First Base

David Ortiz, $2,800 - The stars appear to be aligning for Ortiz to have a good fantasy outing tonight given a few different factors. First, he has a good history against R.A. Dickey going 9-for-25 (.360) with two doubles, three home runs and eight RBI. After a slow start Ortiz has six home runs over his last 16 games and Roger's Center is one of the better hitter's parks in the American League. He's the 16th highest-priced player at the position and is almost half of the cost of Paul Goldschmidt.

Second Base

Rougned Odor, $2,600 - Some time in the minors seems to have done Odor a lot of good as he looks like a completely different player at the plate these days. He has games of 5.5, 9.75 and 10.5 fantasy points in three of his last six and has been running on the base paths as well. Texas has moved him into the leadoff spot and he gets a beautiful matchup in Baltimore against Bud Norris. Norris has a 7.97 ERA at home and has a .958 OPS mark against left-handed hitters this season. This makes Odor almost a must-play for cash games. Don't be afraid to roll out teammates Mitch Moreland ($2700) and/or Shin-Soo Choo ($2400) in a lineup against Norris as well.

Third Base

Justin Turner, $3,700 - Finally, a high-priced option to use in your lineup. Many owners were ready to use Turner against a righty Sunday but he was given a day off in favor of Alberto Callaspo. Turner should be back in the lineup Monday and gets the luxury of hitting in Chase Field. Turner has fantasy games of 6.5, 4.5, 7.25, 10.75, 5.25 and 13 points in six of his last eight starts and will face Allen Webster who has given up two home runs in only 5.1 innings pitched at home this season.

Shortstop

Asdrubal Cabrera, $2,500 - It's hard to believe that Cabrera had a season of 25 home runs, 92 RBI and 17 stolen bases only four seasons ago. Cabrera has turned things around after slumping to start the season and has been moved up in the Rays' batting order. He's gone 8-for-13 over his last three games and has two home runs over his last nine. Tonight he gets rookie Cody Anderson who will be making his first road start of the season.

Outfield

Jay Bruce, $3,400 - Bruce has finally found his stroke at the plate and as a result his price has gone up significantly. Still, he's the 19th highest-priced outfielder tonight and gets a nice home matchup against Mike Pelfrey. While Pelfrey has pitched better than any expectation this season he still shouldn't be considered a great starter and has a road ERA of 4.46 to go along with a 1.54 WHIP. In a small sample Bruce is 4-for-13 (.308) with a double and a triple off Pelfrey, another factor to consider.

Chris Young, $3,300 - Young has become a mainstay in the Yankees lineup and has been hitting at the top of the order. He has always hit southpaws well and pairs off against C.J. Wilson in Los Angeles tonight. Young has a 1.185 OPS against lefties this season which includes five home runs in only 67 at-bats. Over the last two weeks he has a 1.177 OPS and has hit three home runs. He's likely to be under-owned tonight with Wilson being the second-highest priced pitcher on the day's slate of games.

Mike Trout, $5,000 - There are enough low-priced options given here that you should be able to squeeze Trout into your lineup. He's a bit of a contrarian play today given that he's done little lately and many will pass given the price tag. However, he's hit C.C. Sabathia well (4-for-11, .364 with three being extra base hits) and has reached base safely in 13 straight games. Don't think twice about paying up here.
