PITCHER
Max Scherzer, WAS vs. NYM ($12,600): There are some good options down the board, but Scherzer's matchup is too good to pass up. The Mets are a mess right now and facing Scherzer isn't going to help the situation. Yoenis Cespedes left Thursday's game early and is unlikely to play in this one, which takes the Mets' biggest threat out of the lineup. The Mets have the second worst wOBA against righties this season and they are in the bottom half in K% against righties.
CATCHER
Alex Avila, DET vs. CHW ($2,700):Alex Avila is quickly becoming a tournament darling. In the past two weeks, he's scored more than 22 points four times, but has also put up four zeroes, too. In other words, this guy is hit or miss, but this looks like a good spot for Avila as he gets journeyman Mike Pelfry, who's on his last legs as a major league pitcher. Pelfry really struggled against lefties last season, surrendering a wOBA of .394 against them. As you probably know by now, Avila is very strong against righties with a .440 wOBA this season.
FIRST BASE
Brandon Belt, SF vs. SD ($3,200):Luis Perdomo is the gift that keeps on giving and he's about to make the Giants' batting order very happy. San Francisco has largely struggled at the plate this season, but that makes it much easier to stack the Giants in this spot given their reduced price. Belt leads the Giants in wOBA against righties this season at .425 and although he's struggled over the past week, a matchup with Perdomo should help.
SECOND BASE
Joe Panik, SF vs. SD ($4,200): With Perdomo on the mound, I would recommend at least a couple Giants for your lineup today. Those two would be Brandon Belt and Joe Panik, who happen to lead the Giants in wOBA against righties this season. Panik has three doubles in seven at-bats against Perdomo.
SHORTSTOP
Erick Aybar, SD at SF ($2,400): With Max Scherzer at the top of the roster, you'll need to find some value and Erick Aybar fits the bill. Jeff Samardzija takes the hill for the Giants and — to put it lightly — he's been getting kicked around quite a bit. Samardzija has surrendered 20 runs in his four starts and most of his troubles have come at the hands of lefties. San Diego isn't loaded with lefties, but they have a couple that could get to Samardzija. Aybar has a five-game hitting streak and is averaging over 10 fantasy points per game over his past nine games.
THIRD BASE
Mike Moustakas, KC vs. MN ($3,300): Moustakas is off to a strong start, averaging
11.2 fantasy points per game through 20 games. Moustakas should add to that average as he gets a crack at a struggling Kyle Gibson. Gibson has been nothing but bad this season, with a 9.00 ERA though four starts. Also, Moustakas has the highest wOBA against righties this year at .432.
OUTFIELD
Tyler Collins, DET vs. CHW ($2,400): Collins is another lefty that should be able to take advantage of Pelfry. He's batting .304 on the season, but it's been his past two games where he's done most of his damage. Collins has six hits, three doubles and three RBI over those two contests, which has equated to 53.1 fantasy points. At this price, Collins provides a ton of upside and little risk.
Adam Jones, BAL at NYY ($3,400): As a rule, I don't put too much weight into pitcher-versus-batter numbers, because the sample size is generally way too small, but in the case of Jones against C.C. Sabathia, there's plenty to go off. These two have faced each other 79 times and Jones has a wOBA of .382, which breaks down to 22 hits and five home runs in 73 at-bats. If Jones were not hitting well this season, I wouldn't recommend him in this spot, but he's averaged 10.6 fantasy points per game thus far.
Charlie Blackmon, COL at AZ ($3,900): Normally a lefty/lefty matchup is one that you want to avoid, but Blackmon is the rare lefty that handles southpaws well, as his wOBA against lefties this season is a healthy .374. Robbie Ray has been tough on lefties this season, but — like most pitchers in Arizona — he also struggles at home.
