DraftKings MLB: Saturday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

On the final weekend of the regular season, lineups will be in flux, which makes selecting a roster extremely difficult. For my picks below, I did my best to comb through the numbers, as well as considering which players would actually take the field. There's no way to know what the managers will do, but we can try our best to end the regular season on a good note.

PITCHER

Corey Kluber, CLE vs. CWS ($13,300): To compete on Saturday, you need one of the high-end pitchers and Kluber is my choice. He's been on fire in recent outings and should close the regular season with a win against a White Sox team he carved through at the beginning of September for 13 Ks. Kluber has also hit at least 35 fantasy points in his last four starts. The White Sox have some good bats, but have a .319 wOBA and a high 26.7 K rate against righties in September.

Jhoulys Chacin, SD at SF ($8,400):
Finding a cheaper pitcher who can produce isn't the easiest thing in the final week as there are so many new bats being used in lineups. Chacin has at least shown upside this season, reaching 26 fantasy points in two of his last four outings (against the Rockies and Dodgers). Chacin only went five innings the last time he saw the Giants, but I have faith in him to do better. Similar to previous months, San Fran is near the bottom of the charts against righties with a .305 wOBA and 22.2 K rate since Sept. 1.

CATCHER

Travis d'Arnaud, NYM at PHI ($3,700): Not everyone on the Mets had a rough season and d'Arnaud has turned it up even more in the last month. He's sporting a .447 wOBA and .417 ISO in his last 52 plate appearances against righties. Henderson Alvarez has just two starts, and while he didn't give up a run last time out, still has five walks and only six strikeouts.

FIRST BASE

Wil Myers, SD at SF ($3,800): I wanted to use at least one Padre in a favorable spot and Myers was the only choice. He has a .426 wOBA and .311 ISO against righties in his last 67 plate appearances and gets the hard-to-predict Matt Cain, who is set to make the final start of his career. While that's the case, there's no reason to trust the righty, who has a .361 wOBA allowed and 5.35 xFIP against righties. He's also allowed 15 runs in his last three starts.

SECOND BASE

Jace Peterson, ATL at MIA ($2,600): Peterson doesn't provide much power, but he's been consistent with a .401 wOBA in his last 43 plate appearances against righties. Odrisamer Despaigne isn't a big strikeout guy and really struggles against lefties. He has a .357 wOBA allowed, 6.41 xFIP and 9.9 K rate against 121 lefties faced.

THIRD BASE

Joey Gallo, TEX vs. OAK ($3,600): The Rangers can't hit anything right now, but Daniel Gossett may be the cure for them to close the season on a high note. The righty has given up 15 hits, 13 runs and six homers in his last two starts. Like the rest of the Rangers, Gallo has been cold, but Gossett could help and if one player goes deep, it'd be Gallo.

SHORT STOP

Miguel Rojas, MIA vs. ATL ($3,400): Rojas has been one of the few Miami batters who's gone off the last couple weeks and comes at a nice price. He doesn't strike out much (13.6 K rate) and has a great .408 wOBA against righties in his last 59 plate appearances. Lucas Sims has been solid at times, but hasn't surpassed five innings in three of his last four starts and gave up four runs against the Marlins in his August outing against them.

OUTFIELD

Mitch Haniger, SEA at LAA ($4,100): Haniger is closing the season on a nice run, with two hits in three of his last five starts to go with a .372 wOBA against righties in his last 82 plate appearances. Ricky Nolasco has just 11 strikeouts in his last four starts and has a .375 wOBA allowed against righties. This will be the sixth time he's seen the Mariners, and he's given up a combined nine runs in his last two starts.

Teoscar Hernandez, TOR at NYY ($3,800):
Hernandez has been on a late-season surge with six homers in his last seven games, and I'll bank on that to continue against Jaime Garcia. The lefty hurler made it just 2.1 innings in his last start (against the Jays) and gave up a homer to Hernandez for the first run of the game.

Matt Joyce, OAK at TEX ($4,000):
With the highest over/under of the day, I had to go with at least two batters from this game. Joyce rested Friday with a lefty on the mound, but should return to the lineup against Andrew Cashner. Joyce has been one of the many hot Oakland bats with a .420 wOBA and .286 ISO in his last 71 plate appearances against righties. Cashner has had some rough outings, giving up 16 runs in his last three starts to go with 10 walks and six strikeouts. He also has a miserable 5.95 xFIP against lefties this season.
