DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Jerad Eickhoff, SD vs. PHI ($8,000): Eickhoff has leaned heavily on his curveball this season, a pitch the Padres have tallied the second lowest mark against according to RAA (-16.8). San Diego has also struggled mightily against righties in general, as evidenced by their .305 wOBA and 25 percent strikeout rate.

Adam Conley, MIA vs. SF ($5,800): I don't have much confidence in the other mid-to-high priced pitchers on this slate, so why not take a low-cost flyer against a stagnant offense? Aside from their .294 wOBA, the Giants hold a .126 ISO against lefties, good for the second lowest mark in the league. Conley has put up 25 or more points in two of his last four starts, meaning he has shown the upside to smash through his price while leaving players the flexibility to invest in high-powered offense.

Catcher

Gary Sanchez, NYY vs. NYM ($4,500): Sanchez has shown good power against righties in 2017, tallying a .219 ISO over 242 at-bats. He is in the midst of one of his best months of the season, having notched a .421 wOBA and a 36 percent hard contact rate through 11 games in August. Meanwhile, Rafael Montero has allowed a .518 slugging percentage against righties to go along with an 11 percent walk rate.

First Base

Wilmer Flores, NYM at NYY ($4,200): Flores has notched a .189 ISO in 185 at-bats against righties this season. It is also worth noting that recent trades have left the corner infielder hovering around the fourth and fifth spots in the batting order, which could work to give him more RBI opportunities going forward. Luis Cessa has had a tough time with same-handed opposition. Right-handers have slugged .616 against the 25-year-old in 17.1 innings.

Second Base

Whit Merrifield, KC at OAK ($3,800): Merrifield has been one of the pleasant surprises for the Royals this season, logging a .190 ISO and a .345 wOBA across 100 games. Opposing starter Jharel Cotton has accrued double-digit fantasy points just four times in his last 10 starts, allowing 18 earned runs over 19.2 innings in July and August.

Third Base

Nick Castellanos, DET at TEX ($4,100): Castellanos has clobbered southpaws in 2017, logging a .353 ISO and a 47 percent hard contact rate over 102 at-bats. Martin Perez has always tallied mediocre walk and strikeout numbers, but the sharp rise in his hard contact rate against lefties (38 percent) has contributed to a .508 slugging percentage in 97.2 innings.

Shortstop

Jean Segura, SEA vs. BAL ($4,700): He has shown spurts of power in the past, but Segura is at his best when he gets aboard and steals bases. He is holding up his end of the bargain in August, a month that has seen him amass a 4:7 strikeout-to-walk ratio and five steals through 11 games. Kevin Gausman has allowed a .351 OBP against right-handed pitching in 81.1 innings.

Outfield

Adam Duvall, CIN at CHC ($4,200): Duvall has tallied a .352 ISO and a .420 wOBA against left-handed pitching this season. Jose Quintana seems to be a bit miscast as the most expensive pitcher on this slate, having allowed nine earned runs (on four home runs) in his last two starts.

Charlie Blackmon, COL vs. ATL ($5,800):Julio Teheran's splits against lefties may not be quite as dramatic as they have been in recent years, but the 26-year-old still holds a 5.61 xFIP against his opposite hand. Blackmon has torn the cover off the ball at Coors Field, tallying a .417 ISO over 211 at-bats.

Steven Souza Jr., TB at TOR ($3,700):Nick Tepesch doesn't have enough innings logged this season for us to make many concrete assessments, but we know that he has thrown his cutter nearly 27 percent of the time in 229 career innings. Souza has notched a 3.8 RAA against the pitch while tallying a .307 ISO against righties.
