DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Carlos Martinez, STL at KC ($8,200): Martinez has been struggling of late but should have a decent chance to recover when he takes on one of the worst teams in the league against right-handed pitching, according to wOBA. The Royals come into the contest holding a bottom-5 RAA against the fastball, while Martinez's heater has registered an 8.5 RAA over 22 starts.

Jordan Zimmermann, DET at PIT ($6,900): Players looking to differentiate themselves on a small slate may want to look at Zimmermann, who has registered a surprising 10.5 RAA with his slider this year. The Pirates are a bottom-5 team against the pitch and have tallied just a .307 wOBA against right-handed pitching. Zimmermann is coming off an impressive rain-shortened outing against the Yankees and could be a sneaky value play.

Catcher

Willson Contreras, CHC at SF ($4,900): Contreras is putting himself in a different offensive stratosphere as far as catchers are concerned due to his .251 ISO and 34 percent hard contact rate over 99 games. Matt Moore has surrendered a .461 slugging percentage to righties this season while throwing a fastball that clocks in at -18.8 RAA.

First Base

Joey Votto, CIN vs. SD ($5,300): Opposing starter Jhoulys Chacin has been hammered on the road this season, as evidenced by his 7.35 ERA over 49.0 innings. Votto struggled a bit out of the All-Star break but has been heating up of late. The former National League MVP has notched a .421 ISO and a .583 OBP over his first six games in August.

Second Base

Brian Dozier, MIN vs. MIL ($4,800): Dozier has hit lefties hard in 2017, tallying a .264 ISO and a .421 wOBA over 91 at-bats. It is worth noting that Dozier had to leave Sunday's game against the Rangers after falling ill, but he is expected to play in the contest against the Brewers. The 30-year-old homered prior to suffering the ailment, giving him three homers and a .474 ISO in 19 at-bats this month.

Third Base

Anthony Rendon, WAS vs. MIA ($4,500): Rendon is another hitter who has dominated his opposite hand in 2017, logging a .365 ISO and a .501 wOBA in 63 at-bats. Meanwhile, Chris O'Grady is coming off his worst performance of the season in his last start against the Nationals, when he allowed six runs (on two home runs) over just three innings.

Shortstop

Tim Beckham, BAL at LAA ($4,600): Beckham has started to heat up since being traded to the Orioles. The 27-year-old has hit three homers to go along with three doubles in 24 at-bats since departing to Baltimore. Beckham has tallied a 45 percent hard contact rate against righties this season, which may spell trouble for J.C. Ramirez, who has struck out less than 19 percent of the right-handed hitters he has faced.

Outfield

Hunter Renfroe, SD at CIN ($3,700): Renfroe has done his best work against lefties this season but is no slouch against righties, as evidenced by his .196 ISO and 34 percent hard contact rate over 280 at-bats. Tim Adleman, who will rejoin the rotation after Robert Stephenson was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a shoulder injury, has allowed a .473 slugging percentage and a 38 percent hard contact rate to righty hitters.

Trey Mancini, BAL at LAA ($3,800): Mancini has kept a stark reverse split this season, tallying a .269 ISO and a .403 wOBA against right-handed hurlers. A seven-game slate should make players lean a bit more towards stacking, and the Orioles have several players capable of beating up on mediocre righties.

Justin Upton, DET at PIT ($5,400): Upton has shown tremendous power against both sides of the platoon, resulting in a .249 ISO and a 43 percent hard contact rate. Opposing starter Trevor Williams has performed reasonably well against righties this season but has allowed a 36 percent hard contact rate over 51 innings.
