ANALYSIS
Hayes led the Aces bench in scoring in what could have potentially been the final game of her 12-year career. The 35-year-old came out of retirement to play a reserve role for the Aces this season; however, this led to her winning the WNBA Sixth Player of the Year award. Hayes averaged 9.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from deep across 21.5 minutes in 33 regular-season appearances (five starts). While Hayes is not under contract next season, it would not come as a surprise if she does make a return after displaying she still has some gas left in the tank during her award-winning 2024 campaign.

After spending the last decade in Atlanta, Hayes was shipped to Connecticut in February for the No. 6 overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft. Her presence fills the void created by the losses of Jasmine Thomas to the Sparks and Courtney Williams to the Sky, so Hayes should have a meaningful role in the Sun's backcourt. In her age-33 season last year, Hayes averaged 16.2 points on an efficient 55/43/68 shooting, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists. Fantasy managers should be able to draft her with relative confidence. She may even be a draft-day bargain if her her steals (0.7) production and free-throw percentage bounce back.
Hayes sat out the 2020 season but was quite consistent on the scoreboard to begin the 2021 campaign. However, she missed nearly two months in the middle of the season due to a knee injury. She served mainly as a starter after returning to the court for the final month of the season, but she was unable to replicate her consistent results following her return. In spite of her lackluster finish to the year, Hayes' output was consistent with her 2019 results, and her 50.8 eFG% was her highest mark since 2014. Atlanta signed Erica Wheeler and Nia Coffey during the offseason, but Hayes should maintain her starting role in the Dream's backcourt.
