Basavareddy won 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 over Alex Michelsen in the quarterfinals of Auckland on Thursday.

Basavareddy's breakthrough week continued as he upset his second seeded opponent in a row to advance to his first semifinal on tour. The 19-year-old American dominated on serve, winning 68% of those points compared to winning 38% of points on return. Basavareddy will take on either Gael Monfils (0-1 H2H) or Facundo Diaz Acosta in the semifinals.
