Mewis announced her decision to retire from professional Soccer.
ANALYSIS
Mewis has made the decision to end her storied career at just the age of 31. She underwent two knee surgeries in less than a year and has since struggled to return to full fitness, prompting her to hand up her boots. Mewis' last team was Kansas City Current, only making two appearances before injuring her knee. She did play for multiple NWSL teams in her career, including the Western New York Flash and North Carolina, recording a total of 94 appearances while scoring 37 scores in that span. Her final ride at a World Cup was impressive to say the least, she scored twice and added four goals in 467 minutes played while winning it all in 2019. Mewis' was a free agent heading into 2024 when she made the choice to retire. Overall, her career with the USWNT was upstanding, scoring 24 goals in 83 caps since 2014, including winning the U.S Soccer Female Player of the Year award in 2020. She will walk away from the sport as a World Cup winner, an Olympic Bronze Medalist and a three time NWSL champion.
