Dream11 Fantasy Soccer: SC Freiburg v. Borussia Monchengladbach Preview

This article is part of our Dream11 Fantasy Soccer series.

Game Preview

Monchengladbach travel to Freiburg for the start of another Bundesliga slate, with the clubs enter the game carrying opposite runs of form. The hosts have gone winless in their first four contests following the restart of the campaign (D2, L2) but those woes have been a trend all year long – Freiburg have won just three league contests since the start of the calendar year (W3, D3, L6). Gladbach, on the other hand, have dropped just one of the five fixtures they have played behind closed doors (W3, D1, L1) and remain alive in the race for a 2020-21 UEFA Champions League berth. A win here would push Monchengladbach to third in the standings – at least for a few hours – so they should be motivated to get a good result here.

Top Picks

Marcus Thuram, Monchengladbach: Thuram has been playing at a high level, with four goals in his last four games. His scoring tends to be a good omen for Borussia – they have won seven of the eight league games in which the 22-year-old has found the back of the net.

Alassane Plea, Monchengladbach: Unsurprisingly, the other star forward for BMG represents the second-best option for points in this matchup. Freiburg's defensive woes are a big reason why it's easy to back both Thuram and Plea. The latter has 10 goals and 10 assists in 26 appearances, showing he is a good to either score or set up his teammates as long as Monchengladbach take control of the contest.

Lineup Strategies

Goals galore: Four of the last five Monchengladbach matches have featured both teams scoring and over 2.5 total goals. As if that wasn't enough, four of their last five away matches have ended with at least four total goals. Regardless of which team comes out on top, this matchup is as good as any to try and spend a big chunk of your budget on attacking-minded players.

Trust BMG despite them playing on the road: The fact that both Plea and Thuram have been listed as the go-to guy players is not a coincidence. The visitors are likely to dominate and should be in control through most of the game, translating into several scoring chances. At the other end, Nils Petersen (nine goals) can be a decent alternative for Freiburg, but there is not a lot to choose from outside of him.
