2024 Fantasy Outlook
The veteran owner/driver suffered some regression in 2023. Sieg struggled to just four Top-10 finishes and an 18th-place finish in the final driver standings. It was his worst campaign since the 2018 season. For a driver and team that has been in steady growth and progression mode for several years, it was a bit perplexing. Sieg faces an ever-improving and ever-younger group of competitors and it could be that it just finally caught up to him in 2023. While we expect a rebound of sorts from Sieg and the No. 39 team in 2024, we would caution against overly ambitious expectations. His qualifying needs to improve to a good degree, and that will be a key point in regaining some of Sieg's past success. Read Past Outlooks
Runner-up Finish in Las Vegas
XFINITY Series
October 19, 2024
Sieg finished second in the Ambetter Health 302 Xfinity Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Saturday evening.
ANALYSIS
Sieg started 10th on the grid and raced inside the Top 10 all evening at the Nevada oval. The driver of the No. 28 Ford pushed forward to finish third at the conclusion of stage 2 and he would hold onto that good track position down the stretch. Sieg would come after leader AJ Allmendinger hard in the closing laps but a late caution would likely foil his chances of victory. He'd cross the finish line second after a 2-lap run to the finish. It was SIeg's third runner-up finish of the season.

Sieg's self-owned "little engine that could" team just continues to roll on. The 35-year-old driver posted a career-best mark of 13 Top-10 finishes last season and managed an impressive 11th-place finish in the final point standings of 2022. He managed all that while balancing the driver role with the ownership role. Sieg, crew chief Kevin Starland and the entire No. 39 Ford team will be back in the upcoming campaign. He'll once again look to race with the big, multi-car stables of the Xfinity Series and make some waves in the process. Winning still seems like a slim proposition for Sieg and this race team, but consistency and competitiveness have been rock solid the last four years. Superspeedway and intermediate oval racing seem to be this driver and team's real sweet spot, so that's something to keep in mind in weekly lineup leagues and DFS this season.
Sieg is another in the number of small, family-owned race teams in the Xfinity Series. The veteran pilot of the No. 39 Ford experienced a bit of a swoon in performance in 2021. Sieg posted just seven Top-10 finishes (a three-season low) and saw his average finish grow to 18.6 over 15.5 the previous season. A big part of the reason for the downturn was simply a growing and ever-increasing level of competition in the Xfinity Series. On the positive side of the ledger, Sieg was very competitive in intermediate oval racing. Those were his best tracks by far. The cookie cutter ovals make up the bulk of the schedule, so that's a positive to build on for 2022. As the series continues to grow younger and more competitive, the 34-year-old Sieg will be challenged to hang onto his gains.
Sieg returns in 2021 with his family-owned race team, RSS Racing. The veteran driver is coming off his best Xfinity Series campaign of his career in 2020. Sieg grabbed seven Top-5 and 11 Top-10 finishes en route to an impressive 10th-place points finish. The No. 39 Ford team returns intact, including crew chief Kevin Starland for the upcoming season. They'll look to hold onto their gains of the past couple seasons and even raise the bar a bit more. While winning races is still likely not a possibility, increasing the Top 10 marks is still on the table. Sieg performs well on large and intermediate ovals as those seem to be his best tracks. It's also something to remember when considering this driver and team in weekly lineup or salary cap format fantasy games.
The Xfinity Series veteran returns for his seventh full season campaign in this division of NASCAR. Sieg has only gotten better with each passing season, and it culminated in last year's career-best effort. Sieg nabbed two Top-5 and 12 Top-10 finishes en route to an 11th-place finish in the final driver standings. He saw his average finish improve dramatically from 19.5 the previous year to 14.6 last season. It signified better qualifying, better racing and much better finishes for this small race team. Just how much more can the No. 39 team grow in 2020? That's the key question. While they lack the speed to challenge for wins, we could see Sieg push the Top 5 and Top 10 totals a bit higher in the upcoming season.
Sieg is returning to his RSS Racing No. 39 team once again this season. He's coming off another campaign of two Top-10 and nine Top-15 finishes. It all added up to a fairly typical 16th-place finish in the final driver standings for Sieg. The 31-year-old Georgia native is now across 150 starts plateau and is finding himself a veteran among many younger faces in the Xfinity Series. That experience, albeit with a small race team, is very valuable. Sieg and his veteran crew chief, Kevin Starland, should once again be up to the task of competitive racing in this division of NASCAR. We expect similar numbers and consistency from this driver and team in 2019.
RSS Racing has been doing the most with the least for the last four seasons now. Sieg did have a bit of a step back in performance last year, but not so much as to cause concern. He still collected one Top-10 and seven Top-15 finishes en route to finishing the year 15th in the standings. This small race team is expected to deploy again in the upcoming season. Sieg now has over 130 starts of experience in this division of NASCAR, and has proven he can race with the best in this series despite his team's handicaps. At 30-years-old he's in the prime of his racing career, and we look for his good work with the family's No. 39 team to continue.
No official plans have been announced as of this writing, but it is expected that Sieg will return with his No .39 RSS Racing team in the upcoming season. It's hard to believe but he finally crossed the 100-start plateau last season. Sieg had his best campaign to-date with three Top-10 finishes, 24 Top-20 finishes and a career-best ninth-place finish in the final driver standings. The 29-year-old Georgian is find himself suddenly among the elder statesmen of the Xfinity Series as it continues to shift younger from year-to-year. For what his team lacks in equipment, Sieg more than makes up for with talent and intelligence. It makes him a very predictable and consistent performer among the lower tier of drivers in this division of NASCAR.
This small race team showed steady improvement in 2015. Sieg only nabbed one Top-10 finish, but he improved his average starting position by 2.5 spots and his average finish improved by one spot to 19.1 over what he recorded in 2014. The result was 10 Top-15 and 23 Top-20 finishes. That’s a lot of racing and finishing on the lead lap for a small, single-car team. Sieg rolled home to a career-best 11th-place finish in last year’s driver’s standings. We expect the 28-year-old driver to continue his upward trajectory, but slowing due to the neighborhood he’s entering. A few of those borderline Top 10’s should become Top-10 finishes in 2016.
Sieg completed his third full season of truck series racing in 2012. He earned one Top-10 finish en route to a career-best 15th-place finish in the driver standings. For much of the first half of the schedule, Sieg was just logging laps but it seemed he and this team really began to up their performance in the final third of the season. The 25-year-old Georgia native will be reunited with crew chief Tony Wilson and hope to build on the momentum they finished last season with. We look for Sieg to post many Top 15’s in the coming year and hopefully reduce some of those undesirable DNF’s.
