ANALYSIS
This unfortunate news was rumored earlier in the day and officially confirmed by UFC President Dana White in an interview following Tuesday's Contender Series event. Date set for Rodriguez fight
Magomedsharipov will take on Yair Rodriguez in a featherweight matchup set for August 29 in Las Vegas, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
While some thought Magomedsharipov's recent win against Calvin Kattar warranted a title shot, the UFC will return to a previously-proposed matchup and feed the top prospect its No. 5 contender in Las Vegas. Magomedsharipov is a perfect 6-0 under the UFC banner and has been an strong fantasy scorer along the way, averaging 4.89 significant strikes landed per minute and 5.22 takedowns per 15 minutes of fight time. He'll draw a fighter in Rodriguez that nearly matches his striking level (4.33), but isn't nearly as much of a threat in the grappling department, sporting just a 63 percent takedown defense. Magomedsharipov -- who also has height and reach advantages -- will likely take a wrestling-heavy approach in a fight he should enter as a relatively sizable betting favorite. A win could lock up a title shot, though it's possible the UFC makes him get through the likes of Max Holloway, Brian Ortega or Chan Sung Jung first.

ANALYSIS
It was another sublime performance from Zabit. In fact, for a couple reasons, one could argue it was his most impressive performance inside the Octagon. After using his wrestling game to secure his first four UFC wins, Zabit defeated the heavy-handed Kattar in what was essentially a 15-minute kickboxing match. He landed his first and only takedown with about 15 seconds left in the bout. Second, was the fact his chin held up despite eating countless power shots from Kattar. Zabit clearly won the first two rounds and could have cruised to a decision, but he engaged his opponent in the third and final frame and lived to tell about it. That effort put on a stellar show for fans and earned each combatant a $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus. Simply put, it's impossible to train for Zabit because there isn't a single 145-pounder on the roster who can match what he brings to the table. The guy makes the featherweight limit without issue despite standing 6-foot-1 and then goes out and employs elite-level abilities in multiple disciplines. If his chin holds up, he might be unbeatable. Zabit could be next in line for the winner of next month's UFC Featherweight Championship fight between Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski. Zabit better hope that Holloway wins because a Volkanovksi victory would likely result in Max getting an immediate, well-deserved rematch.
