Weighs in as alternate
Faber made a surprise appearance at UFC Jacksonville weigh-ins on Saturday, hitting the scale at 153.5 pounds as a potential alternate for the event.
ANALYSIS
While there isn't a lightweight fight scheduled for Saturday's card, it seems that one of the featherweight bouts might be in jeopardy. Per Ariel Helwani of ESPN, Yadong Song is currently dealing with some visa issues that the company has yet to iron out. Even though Song already weighed in at 145.5 for his matchup with Marlon Vera, there are still apparently some details to sort out. It's also unclear whether the Florida Boxing Commission would condone this matchup given the eight-pound difference in weights.

Faber lost to Petr Yan via KO (head kick) at 0:43 of Round 3 at UFC 245 on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Faber should be pretty happy with his performance, all things considered. Entering as by far the biggest underdog on the card at +375, Faber hung around for about half the fight before Yan began to pull away. Sporting a massively swollen eye and on the receiving end of countless power shots from a younger and more gifted opponent, Urijah could have looked for the exit on multiple occasions in this one and declined to do so. While it's obviously not the result he was hoping for, Faber was smart to take this fight. He could have vaulted himself right back into the title conversation with an upset victory and it's not as if the setback is going to impact the future of the 40-year-old Hall of Famer. Faber can still compete as long as the UFC is smarter about who they match him up against moving forward. He can't be thrown in there with legitimate title contenders such as Yan.

In his post-fight interview with ESPN's Michael Bisping, Faber asked for a shot at Henry Cejudo's UFC Bantamweight Championship. The odds of that happening are somewhere between slim and none, but it doesn't hurt to try. As great as Faber looked on Saturday, odds are high this will go down as the high point of his return to mixed martial arts, and that's fine. Expectations need to be kept in check after this brilliant effort -- which also happened to earn him $50,000 via a Performance of the Night bonus.
