Left twitching on canvas
Packalen lost to Ottman Azaitar via KO (punch) at 3:33 of Round 1 at UFC 242 in The Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Packalen is know primarily as a wrestler and grappler but decided to shoot for just one takedown in the fight, which resulted in the the Fin standing in the firing line with a powerful, athletic striker. This continued until the fight's conclusion, when a flush shot behind the ear saw Packalen fall slowly to the canvas. "Pacu" took more than two years off after suffering a devastating one-shot KO against Marc Diakiese in March of 2017 and got hammered yet again Saturday, which raises serious questions regarding his future in MMA. He falls to 8-3 as a result of the loss.

Making return on UFC 242 prelims
Packalen will take on Ottman Azaitar in a lightweight matchup at UFC 242 on Sept. 7 in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
Packalen dropped two of his first three career fights with the UFC, but hasn't competed in the Octagon since March of 2017 due to a knee injury. Presumably healthy after nearly two years on the shelf, he'll enter as a (+180) betting underdog against Azaitar, an undefeated German prospect making his UFC debut.

Returning to Octagon at UFC 242
Packalen will return to the cage at UFC Abu Dhabi on Sept. 7 to take on Ottman Azaitar in his UFC debut, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Packalen had to pull out of his last scheduled bout in October of 2017 due to a knee injury, but that appears to be a thing of the past at this point. He owns a 1-2-0 record during his time in the UFC and will likely try to get Azaitar on the mat, where six of his eight wins have come via submission as a professional.

Out with knee injury
Packalen (knee) will no longer be able to compete against Marcin Held at UFC Fight Night 118 on October 21 in Gdansk, Poland.
ANALYSIS
Packalen suffered a knee injury and was forced to withdraw from his scheduled fight with Marcin Held. He has been replaced by Nasrat Haqparast. A return timetable for Packalen is not known at this time.

Falls early against Marc Diakiese
Packalen lost to Marc Diakiese via KO (Punch) at 0:30 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Fortaleza, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Packalen did not really get a chance to show anything in this fight. Diakiese controlled the distance from the start. He landed with kicks on the outside, before flooring Packalen with a nasty punch. Packalen signed with the UFC in 2015 with an undefeated record. However, he has gone only 1-2 in the Octagon with his only win coming over Thibault Gouti last February. This fight might be the end of his run in the promotion.
