Calls it quits following loss
FeatherweightUFC
March 25, 2023
Peterson announced Saturday he will retire following his loss to Lucas Alexander via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC on ESPN 43 in San Antonio, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Peterson was participating in the 30th fight of his professional career at Saturday's event, and this loss will drop his UFC record to 3-5 over six years in the promotion. The 32-year-old was soundly defeated by the younger Alexander, as the latter featherweight won the unofficial strike count 51-16 by the end of the second round. Peterson was also knocked down multiple times throughout the course of the three-round contest. Following his loss, the Texas native, nicknamed "Ocho," announced he would turn his focus toward coaching and his new fight promotion before placing his gloves down on the octagon matt for the last time.

FeatherweightUFC
January 13, 2023
Peterson is set to face off with Lucas Alexander in a featherweight bout, at a UFC event on Mar. 25, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Peterson, who was most recently defeated by Julian Erosa in February 2022, will face off with Alexander in March. The 32-year-old fighter currently holds a record of 3-4 in the UFC, and he will look to get back up to .500 against Alexander.
Drops decision after missing weight
FeatherweightUFC
February 5, 2022
Peterson lost to Julian Erosa via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This was a tremendously fun fight in which both men battered each other from pillar to post. Unfortunately for Peterson, he lost, and to make matters worse, he forfeited 30 percent of his purse to Erosa after missing weight by three pounds on Friday morning. Peterson actually landed 104 total strikes compared to just 99 from Erosa. Peterson was the better man in Round 2, but Erosa started strong and finished strong, and that's typically enough in the eyes of the judges. Peterson will not be eligible for any post-fight bonuses because of the weight miss, so the Fight of the Night that was awarded here will end up going entirely to Erosa. The loss also snaps a brief two-fight winning streak for the 31-year-old Texan.
Reaches deal, fight still on
FeatherweightUFC
February 4, 2022
Peterson's featherweight bout against Julian Erosa will proceed as planned Saturday after the two sides reached a deal, Alexander K Lee of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Peterson weighed in three pounds heavy Friday, ultimately forfeiting 30 percent of his purse to keep the fight on for Saturday. The 31-year-old will enter his second consecutive fight having missed weight, winning his last bout via unanimous decision over Chase Hooper in June.
Misses weight by three pounds
FeatherweightUFC
February 4, 2022
Peterson weighed in at 149 pounds -- three pounds over the featherweight limit --in advance of his scheduled fight against Julian Erosa on Saturday, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's not the second fight in a row where Peterson has missed weight, which won't do him any favors with UFC brass. The 31-year-old was a betting underdog of approximately (+230) or greater as of Saturday morning, but now he and Erosa will have to reach an agreement in order for this bout to proceed as planned.
Set to face Erosa
FeatherweightUFC
October 8, 2021
Peterson is set to fight Julian Erosa on Feb. 5 in a featherweight bout, according to Marcel Dorff of MMADNA.
ANALYSIS
Peterson, who owns a 19-9 record in MMA and a 3-3 mark at the UFC level, will aim to build off the win he recorded over Chase Hooper last June -- a win that was somewhat muted by the fact that he missed weight prior to that bout. This would be Peterson's second fight since September 2019, though ,so Erosa would have an edge over him in that category.
