Handed 10-month suspension
FlyweightOther
November 9, 2021
The United States Anti-Doping Agency announced Monday that Benoit has been suspended for 10 months after testing positive for modafinil and its metabolite in a urine sample collected during his July 31 loss to Zarrukh Adashev at UFC Fight Night 194 in Las Vegas, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Modafinil, a stimulant typically used to treat sleep disorders, is banned in competition for fighters following the UFC's anti-doping policy. Benoit's latest suspension comes after he was already facing a nine-month suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission as a result of the same doping violation. Though Benoit was released from his UFC contract shortly after the fight, the suspension will still likely keep him from competing until May 31, 2022 since USADA sanctions are typically recognized by all athletic commissions.

Losing streak hits three

July 31, 2021
Benoit lost to Zarrukh Adashev via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC on ESPN 28 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This was a crushing defeat for Benoit and one that may very well spell the end of his time with the UFC. The soon-to-be 32-year-old found himself in dire straits from the very start. He ate a couple massive leg kicks from Asashev in the opening minutes of the fight and was never able to recover. Benoit did score a huge knockdown in Round 1, but was unable to close the deal. Benoit has lost three in a row and is without a victory dating back to November 2017.

ANALYSIS

Fight scrapped
FlyweightOther
May 7, 2021
Benoit will no longer fight Zarrukh Adashev on UFC Vegas 26 card, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This isn't exactly a surprising outcome after Benoit had trouble standing on the scale to weigh in for the bout. He ultimately came in three pounds over the limit while being helped by his team, leading to the Nevada Athletic Commission's decision to cancel the fight.
