Headed for PFL
Aubin-Mercier has signed with the Professional Fighters League, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Aubin-Mercier's 12-fight run with the UFC saw winning streaks of three and four fights, but his contract ultimately wasn't renewed on the heels of a three-fight losing streak. "The Canadian Gangster" was ultimately intrigued by PFL's playoff format and the opportunity to win $1 million, which likely wouldn't have been afforded to him in the UFC's deep lightweight division.

Gets outgrappled yet again
Aubin-Mercier lost to Arman Tsarukyan via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 240 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Aubin-Mercier stayed competitive throughout the fight but seemed unable to stop Tsarukyan from snatching his lead leg, which frequently resulted in OAM being on the wrong side of a grappling match. Aubin-Mercier has a nice Judo game but is a one-shot kickboxer who has now been outgrapped in each of his last three fights, leading to decision loses. As his contract draws to a close, it's worth wondering where he goes from here. Aubin-Mercier falls to 11-5 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.

Booked for UFC 240
Aubin-Mercier will take on Arman Tsarukyan in a lightweight bout at UFC 240 on July 27.
ANALYSIS
It's been a tough stretch for Aubin-Mercier, who has dropped two fights in a row and hasn't emerged from the Octagon victorious since April of 2018. In his last time out, he lost to Gilbert Burns via unanimous decision at UFC 231 in December. "The Canadian Gangster" is still 7-4 under the UFC banner since 2014, but should be the betting favorite against a relatively raw, 22-year-old opponent. He'll also have the crowd on his side fighting in his native Canada.

Falls to Gilbert Burns on home turf
Aubin-Mercier lost to Gilbert Burns via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC 231 on Saturday in Toronto.
ANALYSIS
That is now back-to-back losses for the first time for "The Canadian Gangster". Aubin-Mercier got a taste of his own medicine in this fight with Burns taking him down and controlling him along the fence at will. OAM was credited with just 30 total strikes landed for the bout. That is not the kind of quantity that will get the job done. Aubin-Mercier is solid, but he is still looking for that one, career-defining victory.

Added to UFC 231
Aubin-Mercier will take on Gilbert Burns in a lightweight matchup at UFC 231 on Dec. 8 in Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Aubin-Mercier and Burns were originally scheduled for a matchup at UFC on FOX 28 back in February, but the fight was scrapped after Burns was deemed medically unfit to cut to the 156-pound lightweight limit. Though the weight cut will be worth monitoring, Burns has made weight twice since that mishap, so his chances of doing so again appear good. Matchup-wise, Aubin-Mercier will enter with a slight disadvantage in both height and reach, but that shouldn't matter much against a fighter like Burns that prefers to take things to the mat. Though OAM has commendable upper body strength, his career takedown defense is a very average 68 percent, which may be an issue against Burns. That being said, it's worth noting that Aubin-Mercier has never been submitted in his professional career.
