Retires following victory
FlyweightUFC
August 13, 2022
Nunes defeated Cynthia Calvillo via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 30-27) at UFC on ESPN 41 on Saturday in San Diego.
ANALYSIS
Nunes announced her retirement following the bout, stating she and her wife, UFC Bantamweight/Featherweight Champion Amanda Nunes plan on having another child. Nina steps aside following a strong all-around performance as a +160 underdog. She possessed an overwhelming technical edge on the feet and used it to pick Calvillo apart. She did allow her opponent to land 3-of-6 takedown attempts, but Nunes worked hard to get back to her feet and never let Calvillo do much damage from a dominant position. Nina steps aside with a 5-4 record in nine UFC bouts, including victories in five of her final seven fights.
