Losing streak hits four
De La Rosa lost to Jordan Espinosa via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 26-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
De La Rosa can't get out of his own way at the moment. A submission specialist with very little power in his hands, De La Rosa was thoroughly dominated by Espinosa on the feet. De La Rosa's striking form is fine, but he obviously lacks confidence in that area of the sport and for good reason. He was also ineffective during the ground exchanges between the two men and looked tired in the later stages of the fight due to all the punishment he absorbed. De La Rosa has legitimately regressed during his two and a half years with the UFC. He has lost four fights in a row and is without a victory dating back to November 2018. The company is going to have a difficult time justifying giving De La Rosa another opportunity.

He will get his next opportunity against another fighter who's struggling in his own right, with Espinosa having been submitted in the first round of each of his last two. Both men stand at 5-foot-6, but Espinosa will hold a four-inch reach advantage when the Octagon doors close. It's a smaller sample size, but Espinosa also appears to have statistical edges in both striking and grappling.

De la Rosa lost to Raulian Paiva via KO (punches) at 4:42 of Round 2 at UFC Rio Rancho on Saturday.

His best weapon was the body shot, which landed several times, but Paiva was able to utilize his reach advantage and start picking him apart with jabs from a distance. As the second frame was nearing an end, de la Rosa was dropped with a right hand, and Paiva proceeded to pounce for the finish. De la Rosa falls to 2-4 in the UFC with his third consecutive loss.
