Losing ways continue Saturday in Sao Paulo
Light HeavyweightOther
September 22, 2018
Henrique lost to Ryan Spann via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Henrique's UFC debut began at heavyweight where he failed miserably and he is now in the midst of a three-fight losing streak at light heavyweight. It's very possibly he finds himself unemployed in the near future. Henrique landed five takedowns and barely came up short in the total strike battle (57-51) and still lost a clear cut unanimous decision. That's difficult to do.

New opponent in Sao Paulo
Light HeavyweightOther
August 6, 2018
Henrique will now face Ryan Spann in a light heavyweight matchup at UFC Sao Paulo on Sept. 22, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Henrique was originally scheduled to meet Mark Godbeer at the event, but Godbeer was forced to withdraw due to an undisclosed circumstance. Now, Henrique will get an opponent that is technically making their UFC debut, though Spann does have two impressive first-round stoppage wins from Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. Despite formerly fighting in the heavyweight division, Henrique will concede three inches in height and seven inches in reach to Spann. It still appears, on paper, that this fight will end in a stoppage, so prospective fantasy owners will likely want a piece of it in larger tournaments.
Draws Mark Godbeer in Sao Paulo
Light HeavyweightOther
June 27, 2018
Henrique (biceps) will make his light heavyweight debut against Mark Godbeer at UFC Sao Paulo on Sept. 22, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Henrique had previously fought in the UFC as a heavyweight, but over six months removed from biceps surgery, will now look to reinvent himself after back-to-back losses. Godbeer will serve as a fitting matchup for his 205-pound debut, as he's also a converted heavyweight, though it will be Godbeer with two-inch height and three-inch reach advantages. Henrique owns a negative striking differential over five UFC fights -- meaning he's absorbed more than he's landed on average -- but is most dangerous in the submission game. The native Brazilian averages 2.85 takedowns per 15 minutes in the cage, and both of his Octagon victories have been earned by way of submission.
To undergo biceps surgery
Light HeavyweightOther
December 7, 2017
Henrique will not fight Timothy Johnson in Belem, Brazil on Feb. 3 due to a biceps injury that will require surgery, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Just a few days after the bout against Johnson was announced, it will fall by the wayside because of Henrique's injury. At the present time there has been no word on a replacement, but since the fight is almost two months away, there will likely be enough time to find a worthy opponent for Johnson.
Will fight Timothy Johnson in UFC Belem
Light HeavyweightOther
December 4, 2017
The UFC announced Sunday that Henrique (10-4) would fight Timothy Johnson (11-4) in Belem, Brazil on Feb. 3, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A native Brazilian, Henrique will have the luxury of drawing his first fight of 2018 on home turf after taking losses in both of his matches in 2017. After joining the UFC while riding a seven-fight unbeaten streak, the heavyweight has since been humbled, losing to Francis Ngannou in his debut before suffering back-to-back losses to Marcin Tybura and Arjan Bhullar this season, with the latter defeat coming in a unanimous decision.
Drops close decision to Arjan Bhullar Saturday
Light HeavyweightOther
September 9, 2017
Henrique lost to Arjan Bhullar via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 215 on Saturday in Edmonton.
ANALYSIS
It was the correct decision, but the biggest takeaway from Henrique's point of view was his improved cardio. An issue that has plagued him in the past turned into a strength on Saturday. The Brazilian was down 20-18 entering the final frame before he picked up the pace to win Round 3. It wasn't enough to ultimately win the fight, but it was a positive development for the 24-year-old. Henrique is now 2-3 in the UFC, but there are reasons to be optimistic moving forward.
