Set for 180-day medical suspension
Alcantara (nose) has officially received a 180-day medical suspension following his knockout loss to Cory Sandhagen over the weekend, MMAFighting.com reports.

The referee probably could have stopped it early, so it was clearly a finish. Alcantara needed this fight after dropping his previous two bouts. He improves to 36-9 as a professional.

The California State Athletic Commission has recommended that Alcantara move up to the featherweight division following his UFC Fresno loss to Alejandro Perez, Marc Raimondi of MMAFighting.com reports.

California will continue to issue these recommendations in cases where the weight cut has been deemed severe, though there has yet to be a tangible consequence from the restructured policy. Meanwhile, Alcantara has already been booked for another fight in the bantamweight division, as he's set to square off against Joe Soto at UFC Belem on Feb. 3. Though he hasn't necessarily had problems with missing weight in recent memory, Alcantara was notably the last fighter to the scale during UFC 212 weigh-ins in June.
