Earns first UFC win as underdog
De Paula defeated Diana Belbita via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Whether or not de Paula deserved this decision is open to interpretation, but her performance was clearly miles better than what we saw from her in her last bout, a 60-second knockout defeat at the hands of Cheyanne Buys last July. While Belbita varied her attacks on the feet, de Paula seemed to only target her opponent's head. Her most effective offensive tactic of the evening was controlling Belbita in the clinch along the fence where a good portion of this fight took place. It was a close enough fight that it's difficult to get worked up about the decision either way, but there will clearly be some who feel de Paula was fortunate to emerge with her first UFC victory in three tries.

Quickly finished in Vegas
De Paula lost to Cheyanne Buys via TKO (strikes) at 1:00 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 28 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
De Paula dropped a unanimous decision to Jinh Yu Frey in her company debut this past March, so she is clearly trending in the wrong direction. She had just gotten up off the mat when Buys nearly took her head off with a kick. It was academic from there. De Paula earned his UFC opportunity with a victory on Dana White's Contender Series, but she had no real history of sustained success in her native Brazil, and there is no real reason to expect a breakthrough despite the fact she just turned 26 years old this past June.
