Matched up with Elder
Valdez will take on Evan Elder in a lightweight bout at a UFC event on July 15 in Las Vegas, Carlos Contreras Legaspi of ESPN reports Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Valdez needs to seize the opportunity and come out with a victory in mid July. His professional career got off to a hot start, but he's now 0-2 in the UFC following consecutive losses to Matt Frevoia and Natan Levy. Valdez' opponent, Elder, is also coming off a loss and will be looking for his first UFC victory.

Drops decision in Orlando
Valdez lost to Natan Levy via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 27-30) at UFC on ESPN 42 on Saturday in Orlando.
ANALYSIS
Valdez was knocked out in just over three minutes by Matt Frevola in his UFC debut last January, so this was a step in the right direction. The issue for Genaro was that he was hopelessly outclassed on the grappling exchanges between the two men, in addition to giving up plenty of power and athleticism to Levy. Valdez's body appeared to completely shut down on him multiple times in Round 2, and he showed a ton of heart in seeing the final bell. Valdez's roster spot is probably secure given the fact he's a product of Dana White's Contender Series, but his margin for error moving forward is non-existent.

Pegged for Dec. 3 clash
Valdez will take on Natan Levy on the Dec. 3 UFC card, Iridium Sports Agency reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdez lost his first fight since signing with the UFC overwhelmingly, falling via knockout in the opening round versus Matt Frevola in January. Next up on the docket is another green fighter in Levy, who picked up his first win since joining the promotion last time out. Valdez and Levy both stand 5-foot-9, but Valdez holds a one-inch reach advantage over his opponent.

Knocked out in UFC debut
Valdez lost to Matt Frevola via TKO (punches) at 3:15 of Round 1 at UFC 270 on Saturday in Anaheim.
ANALYSIS
Valdez earned his UFC opportunity with a wild back-and-forth victory on Dana White's Contender Series this past October, and this fight against Frevola was more of the same. Both men came out swinging for the bleachers with every single shot, and unfortunately for Valdez, it was Frevola who landed the majority of them. Valdez was knocked down four times in just over three minutes. He was also forced to endure some additional, unnecessary punishment due to the fact referee Mike Beltran allowed the bout to continue far too long. This was Valdez's first defeat in 11 professional bouts, but he'll have no chance of succeeding in the UFC unless he employs a smarter game plan inside the Octagon.

First UFC fight set
Valdez will take on Matt Frevola in a lightweight bout at UFC 270 on Jan. 22, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdez was able to defeat Patrik White at last week's Tuesday Night Contender Series to earn a UFC contract. He will get his first shot against Frevola, who is coming off getting knocked out in seven seconds back in June and is 3-2 in his last five bouts.
