Another flyweight let go
FlyweightOther
May 26, 2019
Shelton has been released by the UFC, Raphael Marinho of Combate reports.
ANALYSIS
As has been the case with many men's 125-pounders coming off a loss, Shelton appears to have been handed his walking papers in a recent string of roster cuts. He'll finish his time with the UFC with a 2-4 mark, but an unimpressive outing in his last fight against Jordan Espinosa likely sealed his fate. At 28 years old, there's plenty of time to catch on with another company and begin to make improvements.

Shelton lost to Jordan Espinosa via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night 148 in Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
The two 30-27 scorecards are a bit puzzling but Shelton made the fight far too close due to his unwillingness to push forward early. We have seen two versions of Shelton in his UFC career. One that is pressing forward, looking for opportunities to showcase his offensive game, and another that is far too willing to fight at the pace of his opponent. We got the latter on this night, which resulted in Shelton's fourth UFC loss in six fights He has a combined record of 12-6 in professional MMA.
Picks up much needed win Saturday in Denver

November 10, 2018
Shelton defeated Joseph Morales via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Denver.
ANALYSIS
Shelton landed 7-of-10 takedown attempts and racked up 6:12 worth of control time and still had to sweat out a 'split decision'. A wrestler by trade, Shelton leaned on his biggest strength to likely save his job. With the UFC seemingly cutting down their flyweight division, Shelton may find himself at 135 pounds his next time out.
Can't defend takedown in loss to Alex Perez

February 24, 2018
Shelton lost to Alex Perez via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC on FOX 28 on Saturday in Orlando.
ANALYSIS
For the second time in his last three fights, Shelton's inability to defend the takedown resulted in a loss. He allowed Perez to connect on three of seven attempts en route to nearly seven minutes (6:59) worth of control time. The fact Shelton was able to match his opponent punch-for-punch meant nothing due to the fact he was clearly being controlled for the vast majority of the fight. Now 1-3 in his first four UFC fights, Shelton will probably get one more opportunity with the company before he is sent packing.
Still in search of first UFC win

Shelton lost to Jared Brooks via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC 214 on Saturday in Anaheim.
ANALYSIS
Shelton wasn't happy about the decision and his argument may hold water. He appeared to be the more effective fighter over the final two rounds and he ended up winning the total strike battle by a count of 65-32. His takedown defense was poor and he allowed Brooks to rack up too much control time, but he may very well have deserved a better fate. Shelton is now 0-2 in the UFC with both losses coming via split decision.
Drops UFC debut via split decision

January 28, 2017
Shelton dropped his UFC debut to Alexandre Pantoja via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC on FOX 23 on Saturday in Denver.
ANALYSIS
There was seemingly little separating the two men, although the judge's probably got this one right. The highlight of Shelton's UFC debut was the four takedowns that he landed, but that came on 12 attempts and he did little when he got Pantoja to the mat. Although Shelton certainly didn't embarrass himself, there wasn't a whole lot to get excited about here moving forward.
