Struggles continue in Boston
Spitz lost to Tanner Boser via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Friday in Boston.
ANALYSIS
Spitz's 16 months on the sidelines did not help his performance in the least. Returning for the first time since a June 2018 knockout loss at the hands of Walt Harris, Spitz struggled once again. He consistently got off second in all the striking exchanges between the two men and landed a measly four total strikes in Round 1. While the numbers looked a bit better of the course of the final ten minutes of the bout, Spitz was still swept on the judge's scorecards. The 29-year-old is now 1-3 in his first four UFC bouts.

Spitz has been booked to take on Tanner Boser at UFC Boston on October 18, Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca reports.

Spitz's time with the UFC promotion hasn't been off to a great start, as he's gone 1-2 in his first three fights, but he will now have the opportunity to welcome Boser to the ranks, as he will be making his UFC debut in October.

To say Spitz had no answer for the athleticism of Harris would be a massive understatement. He looked befuddled from the moment the opening bell rang and it only got worse as the fight progressed. After seeing his performance on Friday, it sure appears that Spitz's 24 second knockout win over Anthony Hamilton last September was nothing more than a fluke. The 27-year-old is nothing more than roster depth in the thin UFC heavyweight division.

Harris was defeated by Godbeer as well, but that fight was lost due to a disqualification (illegal head kick). Spitz is a younger fighter that will have a height advantage, and is potentially a bit more diverse in his skill set. Harris has never won a fight by means other than KO/TKO, but Spitz has a few submission wins on his record from his days under the Conquest of the Cage banner.
