Will return to MMA at UFC 225
Punk will square off against Mike Jackson in a welterweight matchup at UFC 225 on June 9 in Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Punk's first trip to the Octagon did not end well for the former WWE superstar. He was manhandled by Mickey Gall before succumbing to a rear-naked choke just over two minutes into the first round. More than 18 months down the road and with his Milwaukee-based Roufusport affiliation still in tact, Punk will give mixed martial arts another shot. His opponent this time seems a bit more manageable, on paper at least. Jackson only has one UFC fight to his name as well, and in that one fight, he was submitted by Mickey Gall within the first minute. To Jackson, MMA has never been his primary focus, but he at least has experience competing at the amateur level, as well as in boxing and kickboxing. For that reason, Punk will presumably enter his second UFC bout as the betting underdog after opening at approximately (+200).

To meet with Dana White
Punk and UFC President Dana White will meet this weekend in Detroit to discuss his fighting future, Marc Raimondi of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Punk hasn't fought since a disastrous debut against Mickey Gall, who is 1-1 in the UFC since easily submitting him in the first round back in Sep. 2016. Though it would seemingly make sense for the 39-year-old to at least get a few amateur fights under his belt before giving it another go, the two sides are in line to meet and discuss options. If they do somehow reach a deal, which isn't out of the question due to Punk's name recognition and drawing power, look for the former WWE superstar to enter as a heavy underdog, even against the bottom barrel of the UFC roster.

Totally overwhelmed in pro MMA debut against Mickey Gall
Punk lost to Mickey Gall via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:14 of Round 1 at UFC 203 on Saturday in Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
When Cult of Personality hit, everyone was pumped up, but it ended with the anti-climatic finish that many were afraid of. Punk pushed towards Gall the second the opening bell rang, but he left his lower-half exposed and Gall immediately planted on his back. Punk worked his tail off on the mat to try and get back to his feet, but he just didn't have the necessary skills or experience to pull it off. We never truly got to see how much progress Punk has made in his training because he was fighting off submission attempts so soon after the opening bell rang. He deserves a ton of credit for giving up a high-paying job that he excelled at in order to take up this endeavor, but at age-37 and with less than two years of continuos MMA training under his belt, this transition is just too big of a hill to climb. Punk was gracious in defeat and confirmed that he plans on continuing his MMA career.

Massive underdog for pro debut against Mickey Gall
Punk (+385) is a hefty underdog for his professional MMA debut against Mickey Gall which will take place at UFC 203 on Saturday in Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
It's highly unlikely that this will result in any high-quality MMA action, but Punk's debut should be quite the spectacle. We truly have no idea how the training of the 37-year-old Punk has gone under the guidance of Duke Roufus, but he has never had a professional fight and he has been training full-time for less than two years. Keep your expectations low.
