Dana White said Thursday that Penn was officially released from the UFC, Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
It's been a tough month for Penn, who just had his would-be fight with Nik Lentz scrapped, after video surfaced of Penn getting knocked out in a street fight. Now that the 40-year-old is officially done in the UFC, it looks like his fighting days are all but over. Along with a late-career stretch marked with negatives, Penn completes his career with just a 16-13-2 professional record if this is the end of his career.

Fight with Lentz likely scrapped

UFC President Dana White told Brett Okamoto of ESPN that Penn would no longer fight in the UFC after a viral video surfaced of him getting knocked out in a street fight.
ANALYSIS
Penn had been linked to a fight with Nik Lentz as of late-July, which was expected to be his final appearance in the Octagon. As if losing seven UFC fights in a row wasn't enough, Penn got his name in the news once again for all the wrong reasons, appearing to get slept by an out-of-shape fan in a non-sanctioned altercation. While his camp claims the actions of the video were done in self-defense, the damage was already done. It now appears the 40-year-old's fighting days are effectively over, and if this is indeed the end, Penn's late-career stretch will serve as a classic example of the negatives and risks involved with staying in the sport too long.
Will return to Octagon

Penn is set to return to the ring against Nik Lentz at an undetermined time and location, Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
After Penn's UFC-record seventh straight loss, UFC President Dana White indicated Penn would not get another fight with the company, but it looks like he has had a change of heart. The 40-year-old will look to turn things around against Lentz who sports a career MMA record of 30-9-2. He should enter as an underdog given his recent performances, and this bout is in line to be his retirement fight.

UFC President Dana White indicated that Penn won't get another fight with the company, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Penn got plenty of opportunities to get back on the saddle, but a UFC-record seven straight losses in the Octagon will finally spell the end for the 40-year-old. He may decide to look for another promotion to continue his career, but the future hall-of-famer seems likely to have fought for the last time in the UFC.
UFC record seventh straight loss

May 11, 2019
Penn lost to Clay Guida via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 27-29) at UFC 237 on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Penn's seventh consecutive loss in a new UFC record. The scary thing is that it was actually a better performance from B.J. than most expected, and he still lost going away. While Penn wasn't dominated, his cardio slowly faded, and he managed virtually nothing offensively over the course of the final two rounds. The entire MMA community has no desire to see Penn fight anymore, but the UFC still continues to run him out there for no good reason. It's well past time for President Dana White to step in and put an end to this, if for no other reason than the well-being of the 40-year-old Hawaiian.

Penn has been added to UFC 237 in Brazil against Clay Guida, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Penn looked like he might have injured his knee in his submission loss to Ryan Hall in late December, but any possible ailments must have been minor as he's scheduled to fight again in May. Penn will carry with him an overall record of 16-12-2 against Guida, who is coming off a loss via submission in June to Charles Oliveira.
