Nearly pulls off the upset over Gegard Mousasi at Bellator 185
Shlemenko lost to Gegard Mousasi via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at Bellator 185 on Friday in Uncasville, Conn.
ANALYSIS
Shlemenko came extremely close to picking up the biggest win of his career. In the first round, he caught Mousasi with a hard shot that closed one of his eyes. In terms of striking, Shlemenko had the advantage for the rest of the fight. Unfortunately for him, Mousasi is still a plus grappler. The former Strikeforce champion was able to win the first and second rounds, at least in the eye's of the judges, with his grappling and thus take the decision. The second round was very close. Shlemenko landed some very hard strikes, but he spent the last two minutes in back mount. The third round was all Shlemenko. The former Bellator champion landed with both punches and kicks. Mousasi appeared to be on ice skates on multiple occasions, but he survived and finished the fight. The Bellator middleweight division is surprisingly shallow, so there is a good chance that Shlemenko will get a shot at a rematch with Mousasi in the near future.

Will meet Gegard Mousasi at Bellator 185
Shlemenko will face Gegard Mousasi in a middleweight fight at Bellator 185 on October 20 in Uncasville, Connecticut.
ANALYSIS
Shlemenko is an experienced fighter with a 56-9 (1 NC) career record that includes 31 KO/TKOs and nine submissions. Although he has faced many fighters since joining the professionals in 2004, this could be one of his biggest challenges. Mousasi will be entering the cage with a five-fight win streak in the UFC, which is known to have higher caliber opponents than "Storm" may be used to.

ANALYSIS
Shlemenko came out with forward pressure like he always does. Grove tried to circle on the outside and avoid big shots. Shlemenko still found him and hurt him. However, Grove recovered and avoided a nasty guillotine neck crank. He then caught Shlemenko and forced him back for the first time in the fight. In the next round, the Russian began coming forward once again. He eventually dropped Grove with a devastating combination that finished the fight. It was a body shot followed by a right hook. The former Bellator champion picked up his 12th win in the promotion, which tied him for second on the all-time list.

ANALYSIS
Shlemenko is a former Bellator middleweight champion and owns an impressive 52-9 professional record. However, the recent development will keep him out of the cage in the United States until he turns 34, and could potentially tarnish his legacy. He had been the No. 1-ranked fighter in the middleweight division before this news broke.
