Secures first UFC victory
Munoz defeated Carl Deaton via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 29-28) at UFC on ESPN 49 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
A loser in each of his first two UFC bouts and likely fighting for his job, Munoz figured out a way to emerge victorious, even if this bout wasn't as lopsided as the scorecards would lead you to believe. Munoz found himself trailing Deaton 32-26 in total strikes landed after two rounds, but rallied in a major way in the final frame, scoring a knockdown and landing 3-of-4 takedown attempts to lock up the decision. Munoz is already 33 years of age and has all of nine professional fights under his belt, so a prolonged winning streak would appear unlikely despite this strong effort.

Return scheduled
Munoz will fight Carl Deaton in a lightweight bout at UFC Fight Night 226 on July 15, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
This would be the 6-2 Munoz's first fight in more than two years. He last fought Luis Pena in April 2021 and lost via split decision. Munoz's upcoming UFC fight would be his third, the first being another decision loss to Nasrat Haqparast nearly three years ago.

Still searching for first UFC win
Munoz lost to Luis Pena via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Munoz fought very well in a fight that could have legitimately gone either way. He clearly won Round 1 before slowly allowing Pena back into the fight. Munoz had his difficulties in the striking exchanges between the two men, but he landed three successful takedowns and did a nice job of targeting Pena's lead leg with kicks. Munoz deserves credit for his effort. He was right there with Pena for the entire bout despite entering as a +140 underdog. The 31-year-old Dallas native and Team Alpha Male product is still in search of his first UFC victory.

April fight on tap
Munoz will fight Luis Pena in a lightweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for April 17, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Munoz (5-foot-9) was defeated by Nasrat Haqparast via unanimous decision in his UFC debut back in August, marking his first MMA loss. Pena stands at 6-foot-3 and is 2-2 over his last four fights. With the fight a few weeks out, Munoz sits at roughly a (+115) betting underdog.

Booked against Herbert Burns
Munoz is scheduled to fight Burns at the UFC's event on May 15, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Munoz had his UFC debut against Nasrat Haqparast, a fight which resulted in the first loss of his professional career. Prior to that, Munoz was forced to withdraw from what was meant to be his UFC debut due to an undisclosed injury. All things considered, 30-year-old will be in serious need of a win come May.
