Veilleux is a lot of fun to watch. He goes a million miles an hour, plays physical and wants to get the puck in the net. He'd be a great fantasy option, but he hasn't played a full season since the 2009-10 campaign. And that's not about to change this year.
Veilleux could spend some time in the AHL this season after signing a two-way contract with the Devils in July of 2011. He's a third or fourth-line winger and will be competing with several players possessing a similar skillset. He played last season in Europe.
Veilleux is a lower-line checking forward who brings responsible play and peskiness to the ice. But that just doesn't translate into fantasy value unless he scores the unlikely job as Vinny Lecavalier's winger. It is possible so keep an eye on him in camp.
The Wild placed Veilleux on waivers this offseason before signing him to a one-year contract in July. He's been a solid player for Minnesota in his five years with the franchise. He's been used mostly on the checking line and hasn't been enough a source of points or PIM to make a fantasy impact.
Veilleux slumped much of last season, scoring just 18 points in 75 games and getting benched for stretches. He'll try to hold on to a spot on one of the final lines and turn his career around.
After looking like a break-out candidate in 2003-04, he spent most of last season in the minors. He'll have a shot to win a spot on one of the final lines for the Wild, but may spend most of the year in the AHL again.
The 23-year old Veilleux was a good contributor at the end of the 2003-04 season with 10 points in the Wild's final 19 games. The Wild have put him on their second line, so they must expect him to duplicate that kind of success.
