Stajcer, the Rangers' 2009 fifth-round pick, was signed to an entry-level contract Friday, the Rangers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stajcer's signing indicates the team is positive about his potential despite injury concerns and his sometimes spotty play. With the Rangers' commitment to Stajcer, Chad Johnson's time with the team could be coming to an end.

Stajcer, the team's fifth-round pick in the 2009 draft, seems to be coming to a cross-roads. With Henrik Lundqvist locking into a contract extension and Cam Talbot getting a firm grip on the back-up job, Stajcer's pedestrian numbers at both the ECHL (save-percentage .910) and the AHL (.893) in a combined 16 appearances last season suggest he's hit a ceiling in the Rangers’ organization. With Jason Missiaen and David LeNeveu both seemingly taking strides ahead of the 23-year-old on the team's organizational depth chart last season, the team has yet to resign the unrestricted free agent.
With just three AHL games played under his belt, the Rangers fifth round pick in 2005 is embroiled in competition against Cam Talbot, Jason Missiaen and Jeff Malcom for a roster spot with the Hartford Wolf Pack. One or more of these four will end up in the ECHL when the music stops and if last season's numbers are any indication, Stajcer could be one. The 6'3, 22-year-old posted a 10-7-1 record and 2.66 GAA with Greenville of the ECHL. In just three appearances with the Wolf Pack, Stajcer went 0-2-0.
The 21-year-old Stajcer began the season with the Rangers in 2011-12, but was returned to the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League after two games. He posted a 2.96 goals-against average in 28 OHL games; while he probably won't see the NHL this year, Stajcer is definitely worth keeping an eye on in keeper leagues.
