ANALYSIS
Jones spent the past five seasons playing for Kolner Haie in the DEL after a knee injury with Edmonton sidetracked his NHL career. The 34-year-old -- who was drafted by Minnesota in the fourth round of the 2004 NHL Draft -- saw action in 334 NHL games with Nashville and Edmonton, in which he racked up 54 goals, 46 assists and 485 shots.

Jones was a bit of a disappointment last season after two promising campaigns. During the 2010-11 and 2011-12 years, Jones tallied 35 goals and played a hard-hitting, two-way game. But last season he only had two goals which may have been linked to an ugly eye injury suffered in the offseason. We'll watch him with interest, but always remember that guys like him often fall by the wayside when overtaken by the type of explosive young talent the Oil has rising through its ranks.
Jones is what he is, the type of player that every team has (and wants), a third- or fourth-liner that won't get much publicity, but will chip in with 15 to 20 goals and 100+ hits each season.
Jones had 18 goals but only seven assists in 81 games for the Oilers last season, not bad production but not good enough to be anything more than a 3rd or 4th line player. Jones will probably have to battle for his job in training camp as the Oilers have a host of young players who are making their way up the ladder in the organization.
Jones has scored 15 goals in 95 NHL games. Not exactly top-line material and it's unlikely he will ever project to that. He looks like someone who will battle to be a third or fourth line player throughout his career, making him nothing special fantasy wise.
Jones is a talented 6-0, 200-pound forward that came over to Nashville in the Marek Zidlicky trade with Minnesota. The Ontario native has spent the last four years at Miami University in Ohio, leading the RedHawks in scoring the last two seasons. Jones racked up 60 goals and 97 points during 84 games in the last two seasons. He will get a long, hard look from the coaching staff during pre-season camp. Although we're not convinced that Jones is ready for the NHL game, he may not be that far off. He will likely be assigned to the Admirals for further development, but we wouldn't rule out a call up or two during the regular season.
