Ryan Johnson

Ryan Johnson

23-Year-Old DefensemanD
Buffalo Sabres
2024 Fantasy Outlook
It was a decent rookie year for Johnson, as he managed to play in 41 games for the Sabres, garnering seven assists, 35 shots on net and 39 blocked shots along the way. Still, Buffalo's blue line is a bit of a logjam at this point, which means the 23-year-old Johnson will likely need another injury to pop up, like the shoulder injury that plagued Mattias Samuelsson last year, in order to see regular NHL minutes. At this point, Johnson will be a relative non-factor in most fantasy formats, though he may be worth a dynasty stash. Read Past Outlooks

Johnson (lower body) was loaned to AHL Rochester on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Johnson was held out of Monday's preseason finale against Detroit, but he was considered day-to-day and will head to the minors now that he's healthy. He made 41 regular-season appearances for Buffalo last year, recording seven assists and 35 shots on goal while averaging 13:52 of ice time.

Might play Thursday
DBuffalo Sabres  Minors
January 10, 2024
Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News believes Johnson might replace Henri Jokiharju in the lineup for Thursday's game against Ottawa.
ANALYSIS
Lysowski argued that Jokiharju had one of his "worst games in some time" in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to Seattle, which is why the defenseman might end up as a healthy scratch. Johnson, who has two assists, three hits and 18 blocks in 22 NHL games this season, was last in the Sabres' lineup Dec. 31.
