Regehr announced his retirement following Saturday's 4-1 win in the season finale against the Sharks, Elliott Teaford of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Regehr will turn 35 on April 19 and just finished off an injury-plagued campaign, which apparently was enough to convince him to hang up his skates. He tallied three goals and 13 points in 67 games in 2014-15, with most of his value to the Kings lying in his shot-blocking abilities rather than his offensive output. With Regehr out of the picture, youngster Brayden McNabb should have the opportunity to take on greater minutes with the Kings next season.

Regehr gives the Kings a steady, veteran presence on the back-end, but offers little in terms of point production. He doesn't rack up enough PIMs to be of much use in most formats either. There's nothing to see here from a fantasy perspective.
Regehr came over to the Kings in a midseason trade to help bolster their blue line and certainly helped in that regard, but he's never been an offensive threat. The Kings have plenty of options on the power play, so he won't get a look there either. The departure of Rob Scuderi and the injury situation with Willie Mitchell will certainly get Regehr plenty of ice time, but don't expect him to chip in much at the offensive end.
Regehr was heavily leaned upon last season as the Sabres' blue line was decimated by injury. The minus-12 he posted was his worst rating in ten seasons, and the five points he grabbed in 76 games left much to be desired. The Sabres will need Regehr to provide the toughness and stability that we've all come to expect, but he won't be a player of interest in most fantasy leagues, as most of his contributions are on the defensive side of the puck.
The Sabres may have over-reached for Regehr when they acquired him from Calgary on the eve of free agency, but he fit the mold completely of what the Sabres needed entering the market. Buffalo was desperate for a big, physical defenseman to complement their young, talented, offensive-minded defense. Regehr has very little fantasy impact due to his role as a stay-at-home defenseman, but he's the type of guy who the Sabres need to win come playoff time.
Regehr disappointed last season with only eight assists in 75 games. He did not score a goal. That broke a string of three consecutive 20-point seasons for the defenseman. He should certainly have a better year but he only provides a small amount of fantasy value even when he is on top of his game. Keep him on your radar only if you are in a deep league.
Regehr continued his string of solid seasons in 2007-08, garnering 20 points in 82 games and perhaps being the best defender on the team. Although he is an excellent lock-down defenseman, that doesn't really translate into fantasy value unless he hits a hot streak at some point in the season.
Regehr has been a solid figure on the Flames blue line for all of his seven seasons. The Brazilian has never been too much of a scorer, with his career high in points being 26, but he rarely makes mistakes and is a great player in every sense except for fantasy. Only pick him up in deeper leagues.
Regehr had career highs in points, assists, and goals last season with the Flames and is only going to get better. Both the first and second defenseman lines for Calgary are rock solid, so whichever one Regehr is put on will get a fair amount of scoring. If he plays with Dion Phaneuf, the Flames could have one of the better defenseman pairings in the NHL.
Regehr was kept bust during the lockout, he played for Canada in the World Cup of hockey last summer and the World Championships last spring. He also attended Canada's Olympic training camp in August. Known for his great defense, which is why Team Canada selects him for all international competition, Regehr had personal bests in assists, points and plus/minus in the 2003/04 season. Expect more of the same this year with a marginal increase in points now that Hamrlik has joined the team. He does not score an abundance of goals, so overall fantasy wise is a decent pickup.
