The Canucks re-signed Bachman for goaltending depth and in all likelihood will spend his fourth straight season with AHL Utica. The 31-year-old journeyman appeared in 31 games in the AHL, compiling a 13-13-0 record and .902 save percentage, but he may see his playing time get cut back as Thatcher Demko gets the bulk of the starts. Bachman was a serviceable option in six games for the Canucks over the past two seasons but otherwise isn't expect to make any significant contributions to the team.
Bachman is essentially the Oilers third-string goaltender and will once again be the starting goalie for Oklahoma City of the AHL. He has impressed in short stints in the NHL (mainly with Dallas), but he is not someone who is really suited for anything more than the role of NHL backup or short term starter.
Bachman had an impressive stint with the Stars last season, even outplaying Kari Lehtonen for a few short stints. Now he is likely to begin the season in the AHL, but the Oilers are far from solid in net with Devan Dubnyk and Jason LaBarbera. A slip up by either one could easily give Bachman a shot with the big club.
Bachman began last year in the minors, but found himself in the NHL with an early-season injury to Kari Lehtonen. He proceeded to outplay then-backup Andrew Raycroft and served as the backup going forward upon Lehtonen's return. He posted an 8-5 record and 2.77 goals against average in that role. Jack Campbell is the likely heir apparent to Lehtonen in a few years, but Campbell's inconsistent play as a pro should have Bachman as the backup in Dallas for at least the next year.
Bachman placed himself among the top goalies in the AHL with a solid season (28-19-5, .927 save percentage, 2.20 GAA) but finds himself in an organization with Kari Lehtonen at the NHL-level and first round pick Jack Campbell behind him. Stuck, in other words. He's expected to spend the bulk of the year in the AHL again, barring injury to either Lehtonen or backup Andrew Raycroft.
