Postma agreed to terms with Ak Bars (KHL) on a one-year deal Wednesday, Igor Eronko of Sport-Express reports.
ANALYSIS
Postma saw action in just 14 games last season for the Bruins, spending the bulk of the campaign watching from the press box. Selected by the Thrashers (Jets) in the seventh round of the 2007 NHL Draft, the defenseman has logged 205 games in which he tallied 10 goals and 25 helpers. At 29 years of age, it seems unlikely the Alberta native will find his way back to North America before his career comes to a close.

A sports hernia sidelined Postma for the final 11 games of the 2016-17 season, effectively ending his seven-year tenure with the Jets. Originally selected in the 2007 NHL Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers -- a franchise sold and subsequently relocated to Winnipeg fours years later -- the savvy blueliner has tallied just 34 points in 191 NHL contests. Bruins fans and fantasy owners shouldn't expect him to crack the lineup with regularity, as he projects to be a mere insurance option for head coach Bruce Cassidy.
Postma’s 2013-14 season never really got off the ground, as a blood clot in his leg cost him nearly three-and-a-half months. He contributed three points over 20 games, numbers that were rather mediocre for a defenseman who is generally considered an above-average offensive player. The 25-year-old could very well bounce back if he notices some likely improvement in his 5.3 percent shooting rate. And he’ll benefit from playing relatively high minutes compared to the typical third-pair defenseman. However, unless Postma sees a sizeable upgrade in power-play ice time, it may be tough for him to top 25 points, even with optimal health.
After another successful AHL campaign, Postma was granted a two-year extension. Postma could be ready to take another big step this season as an NHL regular. If he gets the playing time, he could parlay his offensive skills into somewhat meaningful production. UPSIDE: 40 points
Despite re-signing with the Jets organization this summer for a one-year, one-way deal worth $550,000, do not expect Postma to make much of a splash in the big leagues this season. He's played four NHL games with the Jets franchise over the last two seasons.
Playing in his 5th season in the Western Hockey League for the Calgary Hitmen last year, Potsma doubled his point production in 2008-2009 with 23 goals and 61 assists for 84 points. The 7th round draft pick could exhibit an offensive spark for the Thrashers in the future, but at this point he is not a proven NHL commodity by any means.
